The U.P. has always been on my bucket list. The only part of Michigan i've been able to afford to frequent is Harbor Country in the far southwest corner which is also surprisingly scenic in fall.

I’ve been camping there for years. Back in the early ‘90’s , before cell phones, I arrived in Paradise Mi. & tried to call my wife to let her know I arrived safely, but found out the phone lines were out. A beaver chewed through the canle😂 That’s when you know you’re in the sticks 😆

Love your vids and I first stumbled upon your vids after watching your series on Detroit, seeing that I've been living in SE Michigan, in the town of Monroe for the past couple of years. I found your Detroit drive around videos to be informative, accurate and honest. No lies detected lol. But this drive, this, is my HOME lol. And even then, I can still say that it is rather accurate, good stuff. Just thought I'd fill ya in with more info along this drive, given I know this drive by heart, hope you don't mind. 00:28 Known locally as just "The Soo". 02:59 Love your drone footage here of what looks to me to be "The Narrows" beach. I've never seen it from this angle before. Beautiful. Thanks. 11:55 This map view is indeed the Whitefish Bay area, but more accurately, it is a zoomed in view of the bay's outlet, or, the mouth of the St Mary's River. The small visible inlet bay on the left is named Waishkey Bay. The logging towns of Bay Mills and Brimley popped up during the old logging days and there use to be an old lumber mill factory on the bay mills point, thus the towns name, Bay Mills. Shown on the map here. In 1904 a large fire, along with a waning local lumber supply, ended the town and factories on the point. There even use to be a railway that went through Brimley and across Waishkey Bay to the Bay Mills Point lumber mill town, and if you look closely, I believe you can still see some wooden posts in the water. 13:22 Waishkey Bay 13:27 Beginning of federally designated Bay Mills Reservation lands. My home. 13:59 To the left and opposite the casino, is the 4 star rated tribally owned Wild Bluff Golf Course, offering some of the best elevated views in the area. Even if you don't golf, just take a golf cart ride to the driving range atop the big hill and enjoy the views. 14:30 Yes, other than the downstate tourists, the residents of Sault Sainte Marie, Ontario, keep the lights on here. Use to deal cards here. Also, Waishkey Bay in the back. 14:50 Known by the locals as the "55 stretch", probably due to it being the portion of the reservation where the speed limit is, you guessed it, 55 mph. 15:09 To the right of the road you can see, the "Mini Mac" snowmobile trail bridge, built by my late Uncle Hank, a local artist. 15:19 The northern side of the "55 stretch" portion of the reservation. Dubbed the "Mission" side, probably due to the old Catholic Missionary sites that use to be here. 15:31 Super fresh Whitefish restaurant. I don't even like fish that much, but the Whitefish sammich here jams. 15:49 Just behind the softball field to the right, is a beachfront with great views of the St. Mary's River and Canada. Also home to probably the best 4th of July fireworks show in the EUP. 16:07 One of the first tribally operated casinos in the United States. No longer in operation. 16:56 My Uncle Hank's miniature Pt. Iroquois Lighthouse. The pond was renamed "Hank's Pond" in his memory. 17:31 Pro tip, if you take a left at the fork here and drive about 1 mile, and then up a narrow, hillside road, you'll find the Mission Hill Scenic Overlook that overlooks "Spectacle Lake" and the St. Mary's river. One of my favorite spots in Michigan, no joke. On good days, you can even see the International Bridge in Sault Ste Marie from this view: www.onlyinyourstate.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/20532553095_12920912f1_k.jpg 17:58 End of federally designated Bay Mills Reservation lands. 18:03 Called "Monocle Lake" because it sits adjacent to "Spectacle Lake." Nice beach area and campground. Nice hiking trail that circles the lake. Bring bug spray lol. 18:58 My tribe recently inherited caretaking responsibilities of this historical lighthouse, which was deactivated as an actual navigational light in 1967 after the newer Gros Cap Reef Light was constructed in the middle of the St. Mary's river. Also there's a nice boardwalk that leads to the St. Mary's riverfront here. 19:40 After Pt. Iroquois Lighthouse, it's wide open Whitefish Bay. 22:20 New info even to me, amazing, thanks. 27:55 You mentioned that there's SO MANY hidden beaches. Accurate. Especially here. 29:25 The few miles or so long hiking trail located here, leads down to the waterfront and ultimately to my favorite beach, The Shallows. Always, bring bug spray lol. 30:22 "The Shallows" beach roadside access. You can walk a decent ways out into the water and still only be at your knees concerning water depth. Meaning it may be one of your best chances to find water that most would consider to be warm enough to swim in, as far as Lake Superior is concerned lol. Anyway, hope all this insider local info helps you out if you ever visit the area again lol, haven't been there in a couple years myself, thanks.

Your Upper Peninsula Collection is one of the best Series I've seen on KZbin. I'd love to spend a Summer along the Western Shore of Lake Michigan all the way over the UP, into Bayfield and over to Duluth. The fact that you do this in addition to a FT job is remarkable. Thanks for sharing all these. Stay safe.

Hi Chris, The picture quality has improved tremendously in the latest post. I like the more saturated color and sharper contrast. Keep up the good work! Increasing your frame rate to 60 frames per second would remove some of the jitters and make for a smoother motion!

I understand your love of the U.P. That beach was perfect. Water so cold even in the summer that beach may be half empty. Absolutely perfect. Hope you'll give Door County Ws. a try next year. Along with long stretches of flat out road there's also some twisties here and there. Along the Green Bay side there's quite a few interesting tourist towns like Sister Bay and Fish Creek. The (Viking) Fish Boil is amazing and Al Johnston's Swedish Restaurant is very very good. The Shipyards in Sturgeon Bay helped win WWII I believe. And along the Lake Michigan side are some great beaches and though more spotty there are some tourist towns. You can also take a ferry at The Top of the Thumb/Gill's Rock to Washington Island.

@@ChrisHarden If you take the old route of county highways through Sheboygan to Two Rivers and up the Thumb/peninsula it's a nice drive. Newport Beach is/was one of the best kept secrets. The touristy antique shopping towns are on both the Green Bay side and the Lake Michigan side with some good eating almost at any stop. Thanks for the ride, I'll pitch in for gas by watching the whole of commercials. I hear that helps with the KZbin Partner's plan.
