A town tour of Bridport

I visit the fascinating town of Bridport in West Dorset.

Editied using Lightworks. Finished using a Canon Daylight LUT.

Hello Paul - greetings from Poland A superb video, bringing back so many memories for me. Iknow Bridport very well both for pleasure and business. The insurnace company I worked for underwrote insurnace covers for what was the worlds largest manufacture of football nets. I don't think the company exists anymore. Beautifully photographed with an excellent commentary. More from Dorset please.

Video nicely captures traces of Bridport's industrial heritage, which is what struck me when I made a day visit some years ago. Alas, I missed the museum. Good to see some of the former mills repurposed for, I assume, 'affordable local housing'.

Yes Paul. A very nice tour of Bridport, with its many local shops. It also has a very large and busy market on Saturdays. Parking is a major problem on those days too. It's a pity more people don't use the buses. I hoped you might have found the site of the railway station. I'm pretty certain it had one, in addition to the terminus at West Bay. Thanks for all your work and research.

Thank you Lionel! Yes, the station was near that decorator centre that I showed near the end but sadly no trace whatsoever of the station now. It is on the Jurassic Coast bus route from Axminster Station though, which is good, although I did use my car on this occasion. I try not to,but Dorset particularly West Dorset can be awkward to get to from where I live via bus rail - well over 6 hours and five changes! Always great to hear from you. Take care, Paul

Hi Paul, Well that ends the Dorset trilogy but I hope you'll go back soon, when you can. Its got a good selection of shops which is good to see, I had a chuckle at the department shop which was very small and approprately named Lilliput!! I'm sure its a great shop though!! I just about remember driving through what would have been the A35 and there was a model railway shop. So I had a drive through again, virtually, lots of candidates but nothing there until you exited the western end where you will find Stuart Models and the Bridport Foundry. I liked the centre piece with the stone carvings showing previous industries, really didnt know anything about the rope industry. Interesting comments on this from Michael. Do like these short bites, well done!! All the best (snow tomorrow!!)

Thank you David! Lots of interest in Bridport just a shame there are no remains of the station there. Yes, rope making was a big thing in the town and boat building but since both rivers have now silted up it is hard to imagine what was once there and it having a boat building industry at all now. I do hope to return to Dorset again this year - maybe make a base in Wareham (on the mainline) so I can cover Swanage Railway, Poole Harbour, Brownsea Island, etc. Thanks again, Cheers, Paul

Well done to the locsl council for keeping Bridport unspoilt with large retailers and supermarkets. Also so many old buildings and structures been tastefully restored right down to the towns post box. 😊

My wife and I stayed in Bridport for a few days in the summer of 2019. We fondly remember this beautiful little town and its friendly residents on the south coast of Dorset. And of course delicious scones and cream tea

This is a really nice video Paul. Very relaxing music and bird song and beautiful images. I have only briefly visited Bridport on a Saturday morning for parkrun and then a lovely wander around the market. It’s a lovely town.

Yes it would have been good to have caught the train from Maiden Newton off the Weymouth mainline. Thankfully, the local coast bus connects at Axminster Station for Bridport. Cheers, Paul
