What type of wood is that to be able to bend without breaking from the fire?
@zacharyunger2004Ай бұрын
I can't speak to the species of tree, but maybe help explain how it bends. If I understand the process correctly, the wood is heated over the fire enough to heat up the fibers inside to be flexible. While that ends up with a charred exterior, careful placement and movement of the stick over the fire can keep the inside from being burned. This can be aided by using a more freshly cut limb, which would still have a lot of water within and would help keep it from getting burnt up easily.

The wire seems to be steel! Any info on what sort of steel? I've never seen pvc coated steel wire. Maybe curtain wire? There are safer ways to tension the wire.

What kind of wood is this that gets more flexible after being burned? We don’t have that in California!

A think we will need to adapt this technique with the avalaible wood.🧐

Question, why is fire used to curve the stick? I have seen water used to make wood bendable, but fire is a new method to me. Does it depend on the type of wood?
@uralian2 ай бұрын
From my point of view, water is already inside the timber, fire is used to boil it and to make the timber flexible.
