A Traditional Newari Party | Newa Bhwey / Suku Bhwey / Newari Bhoj / | During Summer

This Newa: Bhwey is a small yearly gathering organised in Thaina tole on the occasion of Mangala Sewa (a community service). It is said the Ganey dya (Bhagwan Ganesh) of Thaina is the thakali Ganey dya: hence the name 'Thaina'. And hence 'Mangala Sewa' is celebrated on a Tuesday. The remaining amount collected from the Bhwey (party) is used for the community.
Newa cuisine consists of diverse dishes served one by one by servers who are our own relatives and friends. Besides the main part of enjoying the delicacies, it also strengthens the bonds among one another and have a happy and joyful time.
We native speakers call our typical traditional party as Newa Bhwey. Non newa speakers call it Newari Bhoj or Newari party. This video was shot on the occasion of Magala Sewa during summer which was before the lockdown.

It was great to see "Newari civlisaion" related content in the web. I really feel the need for more such content. Keep up the great work. To add to the video, given we are sharing culture and experiences, our 'bhwey' has I guess a basic 'must have items' and a 'order of serve' and also 'placement in the lapte'. For eg: 1. Baji (Chiura/Beaten rice) is served first and always twice 2. Then, Green tarkari, saag to the right 3. Then, 'bhuti' beans 4. Then 'aalu' (potato) 5. then 'La: neko' (two piece meat) to the left I guess this is the bare minimum, and other items are then subsequently served. People are seated sorted according to seniority, eldest first. Eldest called "thakuli:". First everyone is seated and little bits of each food is offered to god symbolically- "dya chyeu" and the eldest signals when to start eating "bhwey" to commense the feast. Typically 'saag/tarkari' is served first, then baji, then meat, and others accordingly. Drinks follow with 'aila', 'thwoo'. Dhau, dahi/curd is served close to the end always preceded by 'baji'. Serving 'kegu', green peas signals the end of servings. "bhwey" is end by serving 'sisa pusa' (salad-carrots/radish/small peas/fruits). There are different forms of "bhwey" as well, "Choila bu" , "Nakha:", "Guthi Bhwey"(very very elaborate). oh and i forgot to mention "samaya baji". most of the time in "ritual bhwey", we are served with a little samaybaji with choila, bhatmas(black soyabean) probably our newa civilisation's appertizer or starters. "bhwey " is systematic, our ancestors probably designed it to address nutritional needs according to different time of the year as well. This is getting long, i should probaby write an article. But it felt nice to share...
