As someone who was born in Rochester, I find it upsetting the cemetery didn’t reset he stones after the tree knocked them over.

Rules are different everywhere so this may not apply to all cemeteries but at my favorite, very old, local cemetery they simply don't have the resources plus cemetery policy forbids altering any monument w/ out permission from the owner of the plot. While it's still active, parts of the cemetery are extremely old. the grounds are filled with very large old trees like this video but it's also extremely hilly. Beautiful area but a crazy place to found a cemetery imho! In this cemetery, the plots and monuments are considered private property owned by the purchaser. The cemetery administration is only responsible for the upkeep of the grounds. The upkeep of monuments are the responsibility of the owner of the plot. I remember many years ago, a grounds worker tried to right a fallen monument and unfortunately badly damaged the stone. Because they caused the damage they became responsible to repair the monument to its original condition which was no easy task. Now they have a no-touch policy for staff and visitors. Only owners can commission repairs... It breaks my heart - this cemetery is filled with my city's history.

@@molls445True but with it being in Rochester, you’d think with the money that city makes, that they could at least reset the stone 🤷🏼‍♀️

@@molls445 This is in Rochester NY. I'm confused - your comment made it sound like you were talking about Mt Hope (this cemetery), but were you talking about a different cemetery?

I'm surprised, too. I thought that was the purpose of Friends of Mt Hope - to help with preservation and care and to organize and lead their wonderful tours. Maybe they don't do that any more?

My guess of the tree is the other one that's across from it at 5:40 might have been the same species/ type.

We checked it for level and plumb, it was spot on. Video has a hard time showing the accuracy since the cameras themselves don't show the slope of the ground vs the stone all that well, confuses the eye on video some.

This is the second time I've watched one of your vids all the way through. Great work. And the tripod you made is EXACTLY the kind my Dad would make to yank engines out of cars and trucks when we would rebuild them. Old school. Amazing how strong they can be. I'm 67, still strong and have been looking for something to do in retirement. I could do this work. Used to working outdoors. But I would need to make a living, so I was wondering if this work is your business or entirely voluntary. Volunteering to do this work is wonderfully noble and I could do this occasionally, but not all the time. Will have to work. Not wealthy. Have looked at a couple of business courses regarding grave care and stone maintenance, but wasn't sure if it would be practical. My thinking is some training/experience doing the hands on work is required before tackling jobs of this size. Anyway, any words of advice you could offer would be greatly appreciated. And regardless of whether this is your business or you volunteer to do this work, it's a wonderful thing you're doing. Much respect by you for those who have passed, and much respect from me to you and others who care enough to do this work.🙏👍

I always wondered how grave stones were fixed when they were damaged or sunken in. Now I know. It's wonderful to see the process of it all. Thank you for the respect and care you put in to fixing the final resting places of thoes that have passed.

Great work and love your channel! I've been volunteering at local cemeteries for almost 30 years now and love it when others are involved in this kind of work! I just started my own youtube channel as well and still learning this technology thing! Have a great day

I love your videos! Please create a video that shows in-depth how you use the setting compound, the lead wedges, and the putty. I've seen you use them on numerous videos, but it's always from afar, and an explanation of when you use certain ones would be extremely helpful.

I just saw another video from someone who simply goes out searching for history and gravesites. The head of the family he was researching was a cutter for a tailor, and it was noted that the cutter held a higher ranking job than the sewers. It was humble work compared to being the curator of a museum, but he would have been in a position to pay for his daughter's education at a school where she could develop the connections that would lead to such a marriage.

Hey, I really enjoy watching your videos. I'm so glad more people are willing to take care of these cemetery grave markers. I clean up my family's grave when I visit them, but you've inspired me to do more for the others. I've learned a lot from you. You and Katie work really well together. 😊
