Wonderful Trek to Gutharayan Peak.It was like feast watching your vlog.I have trekked to this peak twice during the life time of Kenneth & Donald. It was way back in 1968 & 1971.I am happy that TN FD were able to give permission with guards.I appreciate TNFD in encouraging real trekkers & naturalist.Kodakarai Bungalow where former king of Afghanistan stayed here is still exist on the eastern slopes.(not maintained). This Bungalow was damaged when Veerappan was controlling the area.Happy to see vegetation intact after 5 decades. There use use to be lot giant & towering trees in this region. Now it is sad to see missing.Looking forward of part II.Thanks 👍👍👍

Thanks a lot Sir for the information 🙂🙏 you must have had an awesome experience trekking with the man himself - Kenneth, which we can only dream about. And for the ruins of guest house, I had myself seen some ruins of a building last time when I was there around 12 yrs back, but now couldn't see anything, heavy lantana growth and also the new guards didn't know about the guest house.

Yes,The present staff of TNFD not aware of Kodakarai Bungalow(It is actually was a CASTLE Built by Britishers). One Castle similar to Kodakarai is in Bailur near Karnataka/TN Border.Unfortunately this was also destroyed during Veerappan nabbing operations.

🐅🐯👍Thanks for the map link. By manipulating the Zoom, I could virtually retrace some of the places Kenneth mentions. As for distances, if I'm not terribly wrong estimating, Is Aiyur Rest house about 100 km from Bengaluru? On the map, what does the abbreviation R.F. stand for?

Good to know Sir, it's actually nice following up places on Google maps and I do that regularly. And yes, Aiyur rest house is around 90-100 kms from Bangalore. Also, RF stands for "Range Forest".

Hi Shreyas I would appreciate it if you could find the time to read this. Apologies well in advance for the long write-up. 😀 I am writing to express my gratitude towards your channel & all the efforts you have been putting together to make those awesome wildlife videos, which have become almost therapeutic for me. I am an adventure freak and a big wildlife/nature enthusiast, too. I have been to some of the places you have shown on the channel, barring the lesser-known ones obviously, which you have dared to explore, but man, I have to say, your content is like meditation - peaceful and healing. (maybe because I am so biased towards nature) Your video 'On the trail of Bandipur Man-eaters' was recommended to me by KZbin out of the blue and I just clicked it out of curiosity and thought I will give it a try knowing that I wouldn't watch the entire video, but then, as you started narrating, it was as if I was the primary actor in the scene and i could almost sense the encounter. That was the point of no return for me 😁and I watched all your videos from the nightfall to the wee hours of the morning, at a stretch. Bandipur, Nagarhole, Mudhumalai, Muthanga are all very close to my heart because i once had an encounter with a huge male tiger in the dusk hours in the forest of Nagarahole. It was an experience I will never forget. Bandipur is like therapy when you go and stay at the minimal cottage. That's how it should be enjoyed and not at the fancy homestays. I like how you bring out the primal nature of a man in the woods. It is the root of our journey and you make it okay to live a primal life close to nature and how it should be appreciated. I share your passion, i share your excitement when it comes to the chital alarm calls, the langur echoes and the bird frolicking at the sight of a predator. Knowing something is out there but not seeing adds to the excitement, I guess. Well, after watching all your videos, i would say the Top 5 for me are - 1. An adventure in Parambikulam 2. Bandipur - A Thrilling stay experience and 3. Ride to Manchi - the last journey was terrifying 4. Kabini and 5. All Kenneth diaries. I really appreciate what you are doing man and i would love to collaborate someday, meet up, and go for a ride to Nagarahole sometime. Speaking of which, you should try Nagarhole (in car) and stay next to this place called Jungle inn and you might find it interesting as Nagarhole is a very mysterious and dark forest. Anyway, All the very best, keep it coming and stay safe out there man! Sincerely a fellow nature enthusiast(Sohan)

Hi shreyas, you are my pathfinder, i went near the lake last time and there was this forest fire all over coming towards the place. I was mesmerized by the aesthetical disaster which was about to reach somewhere close by. We didnt stay much longer due to forest ranger's presence. It was unforgettable

Thanks 🙂 and yeah, during the dry season they had stopped trekking precisely for the reason of forest fires, and sad to know there were fires in the region, those virgin forests should be preserved.
