Don Bluth. One of the best animators/artists ever to enter the film industry. There's a magic to his movies, even some of the not so good ones have it. I don't think anyone will be able to do what he did, the animation is just gorgeous and full of life.

@otdoud I agree completely. The animation, the music, and the story all come together to make some of the most beautiful works of traditional animation outside of Disney. @Paul May Unfortunately, it probably won't happen anytime soon since Hollywood has done everything it can to bury his name and foist cheap, ugly CG animation on an unsuspecting public. I miss hand-drawn traditional animation so much; the gentle caress of an animator's hand has a warmth and life that a computer screen can never duplicate.

It's such a shame that Don Bluth isn't more widely respected and recognized outside of Gen Yers who are nostalgic for all things late 80s or 90s. His films have a personal quality to them that anyone can identify with; they can make you laugh and cry all in the same movie, and have all the magic and life that traditional animation can have. Unfortunately, most of Hollywood nowadays cares more about making a quick buck then about actually telling a good story, which is why we have hardly heard anything from Don Bluth in the last 20 years. (That and the fact that too many people confuse his movies for Disney films, especially Thumbelina and Anastasia.)
@brandonreina7914 жыл бұрын
That's because Disney owns 20th Century Fox and its assets Thumbelina, Anastasia and Titan A.E. (2000) are properties of Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation and/or The Walt Disney Company

The Land Before Time is his third best, in my opinion. It was a solid film but sometimes the kids could get a little annoying and the narrator intruded on the more emotional moments. I prefer An American Tail and The Secret of NIMH.

Great tribute. It's sad that Don Bluth supposedly has a bad rep' among some animation enthusiasts, and in the industry, just 'cause most of his '90s movies weren't as good as his '80s ones... (Which explains why he hasn't been able to do a new movie for 14 years... That, and the shift to CGI/3D nowadays... Hollywood doesn't want to make any 2D movies... Don't know how he feels about doing a 3D/CGI-animated one.) I remember Lauren Faust whom is popular for having worked on "Cats Don't Dance," "Powerpuff Girls," & "MLP:FiM," even took a shot at him before... When talking about working on "Quest For Camalot" a movie she hated doing work for, (due to all the executive-meddling to "Disney-fy" it) she remarked, "If they wanted a cheap Disney rip-off, they should've contacted Don Bluth instead." She also remarked the movie made Don Bluth's "bad '90s movies look good in comparison." While I admit his '80s movies were better, (I still liked "Rock-a-Doodle," and "Anastasia" as a kid, regardless of their flaws) that was rather rude on her part... Ironically, the "Disney-fication" of his movies wasn't entirely his fault either, people like her don't realize. (And he had nothing to do with all the mediocre/terrible "Land Before Time" sequels, and such.) The execs, and such forced him to make his '90s movies more Disney-like. (In fact, Don Bluth HATED how "Pebble and the Penguin" turned out SO much, he had his name removed from the credits.) So it's really ironic for Faust to say that about him, when he was in the same boat as her, and the other people who made "Quest for Camalot." (Which one thing she was right about it, was WORSE then anything he ever made.) "Titan A.E." (Bluth's most recent movie, which is sadly 14 years ago...) is more of an example of how a movie he'd do without all the forced Disney-fication could turn out, and it was very good, (dispite some odd things about it) yet it's sadly quite underrated/overlooked. The animation, and special effects were quite good to.
@hotwax93765 жыл бұрын
What a shame--I always thought Lauren Faust was one of the better animators of our time. But if she stooped so low as to deride Don Bluth in such a scornful manner, then maybe I was mistaken.
@Vins1n5 жыл бұрын
@@hotwax9376 there's always a possibility she said that because it s such a common thing to shit on don bluth. if there's something people tend to do its making jokes at the expense of people who have already been made fun of countless times because that means its safe to do so
@stephenwells64345 жыл бұрын
Animation enthusiasts can be divided into three groups: 1) People who think Don Bluth is a great animator who fell on hard times. 2) People who think Bluth is an amateur who lucked into success in the 80s. 3) People who've never heard of Don Bluth.

Pretty well done. I love Don Bluth's animation and this video clearly reflects the greatness of his works. But just one little thing: you should not have included "The Pebble and the Penguin", because it was disowned by the man himself, as the constant executive meddling on the production got him very upset, so he denied director's credit for it.
