That is true. Sadly, critics would criticize the movie for its dark themes, resulting in Don Bluth doing Rock-A-Doodle, which went through post-production to make it more of a kid-friendly film, and the sequel would be made with Don't involvement while toning down the darkness and making it more like a film Disney would make.

When I'd be outta town my mom would let him in my room, and he'd wait forever and sleep on my bed. One day he didn't come home for a few days and one morning, my mom came to my room and told me that Cujo had been poisoned and was in the dumpster. Goodnight sweet Judith. Thank you for being the sweet innocence in dark themes. The utter love and support she as ducky, and Anne Marie’s love for Charlie. Thank you for giving me such precious moments to run away to in times of vulnerability. We’ll all miss you sweet girl. If there is a heaven, I can only hope to see you there one day

Two Bible Verses come to mind in this scene. Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends. -John 15:13 I have blotted out, like a thick cloud, your transgressions, And like a cloud, your sins. Return to Me, for I have redeemed you." -Isaiah 44:22 Charlie gave his own life to save Anne-Marie's and in doing so, was redeemed from hell. A movie from your childhood hits you differently the older you get and there are so many things sad and bittersweet about this ending. Mainly Judith Barsi and hearing the emotion in Burt Reynolds voice as he delivers his lines. It's an overall emotional ending. Charlie sacraficing himself, having one last conversation with Anne-Marie about "goodbyes," and being welcomed Home. One thing, even as a kid, that I found sad was that Itchy never got to say goodbye to Charlie. I know they were reunited in the sequel, but still... This movie is very sentimental to me, because I remember it was a favorite of my grandmother's. She was a pretty devout Christian and probably the sweetest person you could have ever met. I have vivid memories of watching this movie with her, my brothers, and my cousins almost anytime we visited. Although she's been gone for over 20 years, this movie always makes me think of her. She passed away when I was barely 8 years old. Wish I could have known her longer.

I need to be very blunt right now. That part where Ann Marie is laying in the bed resembles Judith Barsi's death knowing this was her final role. Rest in peace Judith Barsi 1978-1988 👼

Don Bluth had a very hard time completing this movie (considering the voices are recorded first, and she died before this was animated), and nearly quit the business altogether because he was so broken by it. His output after this film took a steep decline in quality.

I remember watching the TV series of All Dogs Go to Heaven when I was kid on Saturday afternoons. I think there were also Sunday afternoon spots of the show too. But I didn't know that it had originated from the movie until only recently. Which is saying a lot and I'm 28! Anyway, learning of the movie plot and circumstances of this last scene made me tear up and really pulled on my heart strings. Knowing that it was Judith Barsi's final role before her tragic death is very hard to bear in knowing. I can definitely hear how Burt Reynolds had a difficult time recording this last scene of the film knowing that she had been murdered prior to this part. As someone who experienced losing my special Aussie dog Fiji last late October in a tragic hit-and-run accident, I can really feel the emotions even more. Like Charlie said to Itchy, "I'm sorry, I'm so very sorry'' is what I feel even now knowing that my special Fiji has been gone for almost 8 months. I had three other family members pass away in the past year--a nephew, an older sister and an aunt. But losing my Fiji hit me the hardest. All four members died between February 2023-February 2024. What are the odds of the timeline? I'm so sorry Fiji for not doing more to protect you. I'm sorry I got caught up with running back and forth to work and school and not taking more time to spend with you. I know we'll meet again at the Rainbow Bridge someday. Writing this comment and watching this final scene makes me very emotional. Rest easy, my baby wolfy Fiji (August 15, 2021-October 29, 2023). Rest in heavenly peace, Judith Barsi, Burt Reynolds and Dom Deluise.
