St Louis company should of never built the R44. Budd car company which build the R32 and R46 had stainless steel which was good. If R44 didn't suffer structural issues then I would of have rode it. Btw I was 4 years old when this retired it's a beautiful subway car not gonna lie 👍🏻👍🏻👌🏻👌🏻

There was an economic recession when the R44's were built. The R44's had to be built very quickly, and be as cost effective as possible. Because the cars construction was rushed, it had really poor quality, and suffered mechanical issues. Not only did it suffer mechanical issues, but it also suffered structural issues because the carbon steel. The reason they were primarily made of carbon steel is because that material is relatively cheap, and light. Now budd on the other hand, did have good stainless steel, but they would've used unproven technology, which is exactly what they did with amtrak's "metroliner" order. Because the technology was unproven, the cars were very mechanically unreliable, and broke down quite often. So the R44's were doomed to fail from the start. No matter which company built it!

The R44’s structural issue came after they were cleaned up after there were graffiti, sense they used acid baths to clean the graffiti, the carbon steel in the R44’s didn’t react well with the acid baths, cause the R44’s to slowly rot. If the MTA had focused more on the R44’s health and not making it even better, the R44’s would probably still be here to this day. In addition, the R38’s, R40’s, and R42 also had the same rotting issues like the R44’s cause they had carbon steel in them.

JMFortnite 8-car 75 foot trains increase dwell times and do not fit on certain lines, such as the J/Z, L, and M. Luckily, open-gangway trains provide the same capacity as a 75-foot train.

JMFortnite The R160 and R188s are two of the most reliable cars in the system and have withstood the test of time for the last few years.
