As I look back at my life, retiring from the Navy after 21 years, I never made history but somehow I was always a part of history. Many people who don't understand why I was in the military, always asked did I regret it? My answer was no "I don't." I endured many missed birthdays, holidays, time with family, and anniversaries. What I did was to keep my family safe and others so they wouldn't have too. Funny thing I never look at it like I was someone special. To me it was just another day at the office, even if it cost my life. Part of job is what I called it.

My mom, dad, and one grand dad and uncle served in the US military. I have served since 1986, I enlisted at 17. I have given my health, my life, my marriage and privilege and more to serve and never asked for anything. Today I see my nation falling into divide even though we have saved the world twice through world wars and even today in the post cold war. Please dont let our sacrifice be forgotten. Every Veterans Day I look to my hero, my son, a 1st Sargent in the National Guard. What tore me up is when I found out when he came home that inner demons were tearing him apart. But thank God we were forewarned by a professor in his college writing class. When I later told him he could tell me anything to unburden him, he replied with the most solemn eyes I’d ever saw, and replied, “Dad, why would I want to give you the nightmares I’ve been having”!!! I felt immensely small but realized he was asking for help, which he got & next month he’s retiring from the Guard & I’ll be there with tears in my eyes knowing the strife he’s endured & overcome. God bless you Son & Thank you Sir!!! 👍🏻🙏🏻❣️

I will repeat what so many others have said "Freedom isn't free" never has been never will be. It takes those brave enough to wear the uniform & do the job to stand up and defend it. A very wise woman named Eleanor Roosevelt many years ago said "With freedom comes responsibility". There sure are a lot of irresponsible people out there these days. Thanks to all now serving, those who have, and those who will in the future. FLY NAVY!!!

In this tribute there was no Vietnam Veteran - as it was in the beginning and is now we are forgotten
@amichelleball2 ай бұрын
@@logomaximus my sincere apologies. The footage was chosen to spotlight veterans as a whole-if I neglected to include footage of specific wars or each military branch equally, I assure this was not by intent. Vietnam is not forgotten-my eyes fill with tears in contemplation of what these veterans have seen and done. They have endured things that only the bravest and strongest of people are capable. May God bless ALL of our veterans, of EVERY war. We are the world’s superpower because of our veterans-not only protecting our own nation, but also fighting for other nations in the name of FREEDOM. Vietnam was one of those wars, and the world saw, and the people remember. Any who condemn or “forget” Vietnam have failed to see the big picture-we fight in the name of freedom, not selfishly for ourselves, but for ALL of MANKIND. A HUGE salute and immense love to all the Vietnam veterans-my hat off and my head bowed to you 🫡🤍🙏🏻

Too little - too late We have no pride We do not deserve our place in the world. All that we have sullied and wasted was earned by men far - far greater than any of those who now work to destroy it. How sad

Your comment saddens me…. You aren’t the problem, but you sure as hell aren’t helping any. I’m a Veteran, and I, and the generations of my family that have also served, we have earned our place, we’ve sacrificed for an ideal that’s bigger than the individual. If you can’t or don’t understand those then you maybe are part of the problem….

Decent video. BUT - the narrator says, "men" over and over, and all the homecoming scenes were of men. I watched it hoping it would show a woman or two coming home to her family. It would have been great if it had made some effort to acknowledge that women are now a significant part of our military, and our veteran community, but it didn't. MSgt, USAF (Ret)
@adamalexopoulos45012 ай бұрын
For the majority of its history, America’s military was compromised of men. I do think she was referring to those “men“ in reference to those who fought during the fountains of the country as it is known today. She included women in the footage and the narrative 3:22 . True, there were no “homecoming” scenes, which would’ve been cool. Then again, nothing is PERFECT-except for God. Great respect to you for your service. 🙏🏻🙂↕️
