I like the way you refer people who own or 'still' use these popular and classic machines as ' quite old'. Also here in the UK most sensibly did not skip this 'old outdated technology' but stored it as they realised how much it cost way back then, and may be of later use, which they are.I still regularly refurb these machines for many as some are transferring or (dare i say) even watching their tape collections. The Sanyo's in particular were well put together so don't be surprised it 'still works'.Most vcr's sadly were never serviced in their lifetimes hence why after 30 odd years they need this now. Most of today's recording technology is superceded after a year or so which is pretty annoying and not built for servicing but to be replaced and some not that reliable at all. On a final note always respect that which allowed what is around now to have been created. Even with us 'oldies'. The Sanyo you are working on needs all new belt's (X3) and two new rubber idler tyres. Also the pinch roller cleaning and capstan shaft too. Just as a starting point.
