I know this vid is 3 years old but it’s new to me. I loved it. I love all things UK and Scotland in particular. I was stationed in Germany and spent a period of time at RAF Lukers when our squadron went there to train together. The folks in the RAF that I was working with knew how much I loved Scotland and made it OK for me to take five days off straight while they did my work where I could just run the trains, visit Edinburgh and enjoy a dream come true. They were my best mates. I’m enjoying y’all’s channel a lot. That enjoyment has made me a Patreon with others of good taste.

I think we're goig to h have to extend the Edinburgh leg of our trip yet ANOTHER day! Would love to take the train ride! And, Tony & Kristen, I'm now off to Amazon to buy the Harry Potter books for myself & the movies for hubby's main Christmas present. That's right, thanks to you I'm finally getting around to reading the books & watching the movies! I've seen bits & pieces of the movies in tv, always meant to watch them end to end, but life kept getting in the way when one would be on tv! That can't happen if we have the movies to watch at our leisure!

Phenomenal video, Tony and Kirsten. Lucky you to go First Class on the Hogwarts Express. Glad you were able to take the wee boat tour over toward my primary ancestral home of Skye. In Sep 2015, my friend and I caught the ferry from Mallaig to Armadale, Is. of Skye. Slàinte

I did enjoy your video but I noted that the engine crossing the glenfinnan viaduct was in reverse so it was a different trip. the trip goes to pronounce it as MALIG
@ClanBroonford7 жыл бұрын
jim mitchell ha! Yes well spotted. I flipped the clip as the only decent footage we had of it was on the return journey. And I'm still struggling to pronounce it 😂 thanks for the comment - Kirsten
@ventureglen16015 жыл бұрын
@@ClanBroonford it can't have been the return journey because the backward facing engine was pulling the train over the viaduct towards Glenfinnan and Mallaig?
@jimwilson46516 жыл бұрын
I really enjoyed that, how long is the stop in Mallaig?
@ClanBroonford6 жыл бұрын
Not exactly sure, it was last June we were on this. It was anything between 1.5 and 2 hours. But the trip was great. Incredible views the entire way.

Is that Morrison's cafeteria in the background at the station? We used to have them in Florida. Seals are doggies in wetsuits
@decemberband19854 жыл бұрын
Hello, I was wondering if you would allow us to use a little bit of this footage in a music video for a version of a Big Country song we are producing? Kind regards. We’d fully credit you of course. It would be of the train in the station and over the viaduct possibly.

Hi, I’m going on the train in September. Can you tell me if there is a preferred side to sit on for the best view of the bridge?. Thanks 🙏
@ClanBroonford5 жыл бұрын
Yes there is. As you enter the train you want to stay on seats on the same side. If you enter the train and sit in the opposite side you will not see the bridge. You also want to stay in those seats for the return journey. To clarify. If you are facing the direction the train goes in at the start of the journey, you want to win the left hand side.

I plan to train Scotrail from Glasgow to Mallaig on the 1st day. 2nd day, we hope to ride the Jacobite train from Mallaig to Ft William. Then at Ft William switch trains to return to Glasgow. Does this plan make sense? Thank you
@ClanBroonford4 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure you will be able to go that. The Jacobite is ran as a round trip for fort william to mallaig then back again the same day. You might find it impossible to just get tickets from mallaig to gift William. Here is the web site. westcoastrailways.co.uk/jacobite/steam-train-trip

Is this an electric train or is it really coal-fired? If it's coal, the crew would be pretty filthy after a long journey like that! Saw an episode of Top Gear where Jeremy had to race the others in a coal train and it was hilarious seeing him coated head to toe in soot!
@ClanBroonford7 жыл бұрын
I saw that episode as well. It is a traditional coal train.

How much is it from Mallaig to Skye? And where does the ferry arrives? Pottre??
@ClanBroonford6 жыл бұрын
Hi, the train is from Fort William to Mallaig and here is a link to the web site to book it. www.westcoastrailways.co.uk/jacobite/jacobite-steam-train-details.cfm Also the ferry leaves from Mallaig, does a trip round the islands and then arrived back at Mallaig in time to get the train back to Fort William.

Did you book the boat trip before hand or when you got into Mallaig? (Really enjoyed this video!)

After arriving in Maillaig, how'd you get back in Fort William? Does the train return to Fort William and if so, do you have to pay extra for the return? Thanks in advance
@ClanBroonford4 жыл бұрын
Hi, yes the train returns. You get about 2hrs ish in Maillaig then return the same day.
