It's still there on Center, you just have to make an appointment.

At one time he had 3 or 4 locations. Not all of them were open. I had been to 2 of the locations. JB

Interesting video/movie trivia. Hey, you got close to my old stomping grounds, probably went right on past it. Love it when you check out these small towns! ♡

It came out pretty decent considering everything I had planned was closed when I got there.

Very cool trip James! I didn’t know that’s where that was filmed thanks for sharing

They primarily filmed there. The cast stayed in Wichita Falls and there is the infamous story of Cybil Sheppard eating two Beanie Burgers from Stanley's.

The Theatre was burned out, I think even prior to "The Last Picture Show" was filmed in the early '70's. Been there twice, myself.
@AViewFromTheMiddle6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, in Texasville it's shown as having burned. They built this front after that was filmed.

A Trip to "Texasville" - Archer City, Texas

I haven't seen either of these films, but its fun to see / visit old movie sets. A movie got filmed in the little village (yes, village) where I went to school. It was called "Knockaround Guys" and I got to meet Seth Green and Vin Diesel. Very cool video!!! :)
@AViewFromTheMiddle6 жыл бұрын
I've heard of The Knockaround Guys. There have been a couple of small movies filmed near here, but quite a few around Dallas/Fort Worth. I don't want to deal with the traffic enough to see those locations.

One thing I seemed to notice about areas of America that aren't in the Midwest, the old courthouses are usually always gone in small towns. Where I live, Indiana, almost all the towns still have the old courthouse, most are still in use. The buildings are time capsules and really cool to walk around. Giant murals, huge ornate wood trimmings and winding staircases of carved oak. If you like old courthouses like this, I could maybe send you some links to something that would blow your mind.

We've got a nice mix around here. Some new ones, some remodeled, but a lot of them are like the one in Archer City. Decatur is a beautiful one too.

I have not seen Texasville nor have I heard of it. I do love Lonesome Dove though and I'm pretty sure I have seen The Last Picture Show. Didn't it have an interesting pool scene? I think Randy Quaid was in it too. Quite a film when you're a young teenager.
@AViewFromTheMiddle6 жыл бұрын
The pool scene was quite scandalous for the time. Randy Quaid was in it, and Texasville as well.

I have been there several times. The first time they still had the props up in the Royal for Texasville. I have a picture of my son on the steps where Sonny (Timothy Bottoms) sat for the filming. I know a man that worked on the props for the last picture show (Ed) and have visited with him about it. His name is listed on the credits. I would love to find out more about the filiming.

Roadkill Review Pretty much. Even that little Cobwebs store was closed. If I had known before I went I would have brushed up on the movie and just done a shooting location video.

Interesting info on Archer City. I have been to Wichita Falls and the State Park out there. I have a red Chevrolet tailgate in my garage! We like old towns and museums. Cool jail house. A youtube buddy of mine works at the Lindale Museum, and it films things on you tube from the museum.

Cool video. Loved both movies. They should do the 3rd one "Duane's Depressed". That was also a great follow up book. The rest of the books McMurtry did as sequel's after "Dunane's Depressed" really sucked and he burned it all out. And burned it out REALLY BAD for being McMurtry.
@AViewFromTheMiddle5 жыл бұрын
I'm really not familiar with anything beyond the third one, but that happens sometimes. An author or movie maker can go to the well one too many times
@74Spirit14 жыл бұрын
There was one more Duane Jackson book after Duane's Depressed. It was titled Rhino Ranch.
@JB-wd5rw3 жыл бұрын
You are correct! The other books do not compare to the Last Picture show or Texasville. Mr. McMurtry unfortunately passed away just this year (2021) JB
