Linda, if your bird bath is sitting in the sun, that could be the reason the birds are not using it. The bird bath needs to have some shade, otherwise the water will get extremely hot.

Had the same thought and was going to mention, too. The water temps may not be very refreshing to our feathered friends.

also birds come when trees provide them protection to hide. So next year when trees are more established and birds know its a safe space they will use the water.

I have an arbor over my birdbath with a confederate jasmine vine growing over it. This not only keeps the water cooler but it also provides shade for the birds. Plus, the white flowers are gorgeous and so fragrant when blooming in the spring. Your sprinkler system man can stub up a pipe to your birdbath that will add fresh water every time you run your irrigation. My husband did this at our birdbath and it works very well.

Hi Linda. You might have to position your birdbath near a protected and shaded area. Birds like a bit of canopy to protect them from predators as they're vulnerable when they bathe. They also like to fly to nearby branches to preen after bathing. Shade also keeps the water cool during the summer months. No need to fill the bath to the top either, they like shallow water. Hope this helps! The garden looks great!

Hello Linda - my name is Eugenia in Southern California. I truly enjoy your videos, watch and repeat repeat and repeat. It is August 1st today and I know this video is a July date and I agree, we experienced the hottest July.... my vegg garden, thankfully due to the heat, has finally flushed out and we are eating from it now. You are so inspiring... while we have a front lawn that faces the street, it is just grass and I think I'm going to something similar to what you've done with your front lawn. I'm in zone 10b. Always love your video... terrific content.

The lace perennial is just beautiful. The queen ann's lace grows wild in Kentucky in my area, Zone 7. Loving the plan for the back yard/outdoor living room. I, too, love your agapanthus. I noticed them right away when they were delivered. Unfortunately, in Minnesota, they're an annual and quite expensive. I also say a prayer whenever the helicopters fly over my house on their way to the nearby hospital. My house doesn't have A/C, but it's still cooler than working in my full-sun garden. I reserve my chores time for early morning or in the evening. This week, we're back in the hot 90s so I've been held up indoors watching gardening videos. And that's not bad. I can't get over how your lawn has recovered. Mine is sad. I don't have irrigation, but I hand water it. It doesn't seem to matter. I've thrown in the towel on a small area at the end of my driveway. It's about 5x6' and extremely dry. I'm going to dig out the weeds and tiny bit of grass to plant ajuga, thyme, lower ornamental grasses, allium. Maybe even a brick rug. 😊

You mentioned wanting your roses to have space to breathe. A ground cover that has performed amazing on our sun baked slope and is gorgeous yellow for much of the spring is Weihenstephaner gold sedum. It does not prevent all weeds but it’s show is so fabulous, it’s worth it. I like to use it between plants they need to breathe. Sometimes it blooms at the same time as the creeping phlox which is stunning. It somehow survived negative degrees this winter and a 100 degree harsh summer last year.

This garden already has such an established look. When you started a few months ago, I had no idea it could come together in such a short time. I’m so glad you did a cottage garden. I live in the inner city of Calgary and have a very tiny yard…I’m planning on a social patio like yours. Thanks for the inspiration! You have such a variety of plants, many of which can only be grown as annuals in my zone. The last few years I’m not willing to take chances with my plants and have returned to only growing good, old faithfuls that I know will survive our crazy winters…often minus 30 degrees Celsius, and even minus 40. Then we have chinooks that can cause a thaw in the middle of winter. Every gardener has a different challenge…you have the extreme heat and I have the extreme cold.

Ohh Linda, I love your garden so much, that I keep re-watching this and other videos. You continue to inspire me with my own garden, and I thank you for that. We are having very warm weather for the middle of winter here in Qld Australia.The days have been between 17-25 C. However the night temperatures are very cold; close to freezing on some of our nights. It is the strangest weather. You are having heat waves in many areas of the US. and other parts such as east Oregon are experiencing more rainfall than usual. It has to be climate change. It affects my seed germination during our QLD winter months.

Beautiful garden 😍. Here in the North of France and in England, the weather has been unseasonably cool and wet. Quite a contrast to last year. The garden is green and lush, the plants just love these temperatures.
@maryannroupas7169 Жыл бұрын
Linda, your birdbath is much too deep to attract birds. It needs to be much more shallow with a gradual incline for them to enter the water. You really need a new bowl with a much flatter shape or add pebbles into your existing bowl to make it more attractive to birds as well as butterflies. You’ll also have to change water daily if necessary due to the excessive heat and evaporation in your area. An appropriate birdbath would be a wonderful and much needed accent to your beautiful garden. Even a water filled saucer to one of your flowerpots would be a welcome addition.

I bought my first agapanthus this year and mine are not doing well. They are blue and I think I put to many plants in my garden because they are under the other plants and are not blooming. They were close to my asters and the asters are larger than they were last year and they are lying in between the asters and some other plants. When I bought the agapanthus they were beautiful. I’m in NC and I think I’m a 8 or 7. It has been very hot this week. The humidity is high and it is bringing the temperatures seem even hotter.
