Going chronologically, -He had Klint kill the second, third, and fourth Professor victims (3) -He had Jigoku shoot Genshin in the graveyard (1) -Of the sixteen defendants of Van Zieks’ to receive a not guilty verdict, he had fourteen of them killed, with Cosney Megundal/Magnus McGuilded and Odie Asman being killed by Rupert Crogray/Ashley Graydon and Dr. Courtney Sithe respectively (14) -Finally, he arranged the assassin exchange which eliminated Dr John H. Watson/Wilson and Tobias Gregson (2) This totals up to TWENTY counts of Instigating Murder. Genshin and Klint are fucking amazing. Dude they are so fucking good. Most of the time, these flashback characters are rather simple and mostly just "This is a good person!" or "This is a bad person!" without much in the way of complexity. Which makes sense, they're mostly just meant to be names that did important things but have died since they did their important thing. Genshin and Klint are actually defined characters. They could theoretically be MAIN CHARACTERS. Their story is so compelling. They don't exist to just give Asougi and Van Zieks reasons to do things, they exist as real characters whose actions incidentally caused them to do things. Genshin learned that one of his best friends was a serial killer and was killing a ton of people, and rather than just see him go on like that, he actually took matters into his own hands. He felt it more respectful to his friend to let him die than to keep on living as a murderer. Klint feeling that he can't do anything so he resorts to murdering someone, but Vortex finds out and forces him to kill more people and he starts slowly going insane until Genshin confronts him is so fucking good. And let's talk about that, too, Klint DIDN'T COVER HIS TRACKS WELL! He probably murdered the first person without much of a plan, and he got caught fucking immediately because of course he did, he's no criminal mastermind, obviously things slipped through the cracks. AND CAN WE TALK ABOUT FUCKING VORTEX?! Dude he's such a good villain. He's no Simon, mind, but god damn is he wonderful. He knows that he holds all the cards and he isn't afraid to use that to his advantage. He's such a compelling speaker, he knows exactly what to say to get people on his side. He confessed his crimes because he saw it as an OPPORTUNITY to spread his morals and convince people of his ideologies. And he truly does believe he is doing good, he genuinely believes that his actions will cause the British justice system to be better. He believes in justice, and it's BECAUSE he believes in it that he is willing to do injustice to reach that goal. And the best part is that he almost won. So many villains in this series attempt to become and believe they are above the law. Redd White, von Karma, Matt Engarde, Dahlia, Kristoph, Quercus Alba, Dane Gustavia, Blaise Debeste, Simon Keyes, Ga'ran, all of them and more want to be above the law and be untouchable by the law, but all of them fail. Vortex is the ONLY VILLAIN WHO SUCCEEDS IN BECOMING ABOVE THE LAW! He never got his hands dirty personally, they can't accuse him of any crimes directly because he never murdered anyone. He left behind almost no record of his coercing people to murder, and he gets rid of all of the people who weren't deathly loyal to him so the only people who truly knew his crimes were those who would rather die than confess, like Sithe and Jigoku. And even when Klint's will comes out, he is able to spin it in such a way that THE ENTIRE GALLERY is on his side and believes that he is right. He's never behind the prosecutor's bench but it's obvious to see that he was a prosecutor because of how good he is at getting people on his side and making arguments. In the end, he is literally untouchable by the law. The ONLY reason he gets caught is because Holmes is Holmes and outsmarted him by getting the ONE person with absolute power over him to strike him down. God what exceptional fucking characters holy shit. He takes what Gant did and, I think, does it even better, because he is the exact same type of man that Gant was. There's no chance that Takumi didn't know what he was doing in making Vortex look so much like Gant.
@xord62862 жыл бұрын
great analysis, I'm glad I'm not the only person who calls him Hart Vortex still I think Vortex is kind of like Gant to the extreme, while Gant acknowledged his defeat and what he had become, congratulating Wright and Edgeworth, Vortex was insistent that he was what London needed, but I like how Vortex didn't get his hands dirty at all(Engarde didn't either but it was for only one person, Vortex had many killed without doing it directly), but I agree, Vortex is #2, it'll be hard to overtake Simon Keyes
@soul67332 жыл бұрын
Technically speaking, Ga' Ran too was above the law. Which is why Apollo and Phoenix had to find a way to dethrone her if they wanted to sentence her. The symbolism in Judge Stronghart's breakdown is so powerful. I can't list every part of its incredibly deep meaning here, but I'll do my best to list those which I find most powerful. 1: Stronghart's Gavel - Judge Stronghart uses his own gavel, a unicorn. Using his own gavel is a powerful statement, as if to say, "Justice will not be carried out by the hand of the Law, but by my hand instead." His gavel is louder than the normal gavel. The sound of a normal gavel is almost like a quiet reminder that order must be maintained in the courtroom. It is impartial, uncaring, with an eye only towards justice. Its job is to ensure that justice is carried out properly. On the other hand, Stronghart's gavel is deafening. It commands attention, yelling out that Stronghart is in command. It is not impartial, it is used to obstruct justice, and to do so it must be louder than Ryunosuke's calls for justice. Notice that during his breakdown, he bangs it several times and gets no response from the courtroom. He's lost his authority, and his gavel has lost is metaphorical power. He bangs it even harder, but it breaks. When it breaks, he loses the symbol of his power. He loses what he's been using to keep the trial going his way, although at that point, it was never going to go his way again anyway. Another thing to note is that his gavel was a unicorn. Unicorns are a symbol of freedom, innocence, and peace, the very principles that a courtroom operates under. He grabbed those principles and beat the very seat of Justice with them throughout the trial. A unicorn running away from you is a symbol of broken trust. The gavel breaking and the unicorn head flying off during his breakdown symbolizes that all trust in Stronghart (and possibly the judicial system) has been eroded by his own actions, and (again) he no longer has control over the trial. 2: Fall from Grace - Judge Mael Stronghart falls from his bench. Holmes even points this out. It is, quite literally, a fall from grace. Stronghart, who saw himself as above everyone, was brought down by the one woman even higher than him. In the coming days, he will be judged in a public trial by jury. Stronghart, a man who sat in a seat above all others, will now have to sit below that seat and below 6 ordinary commoners who also sit below that seat but above him and he will have to plead his case to them. He carried out "justice" from the shadows, and it is the ultimate slap in the face that his trial will be public and reveal everything to the public that he fought so desperately to hide from them. 3: The Scales of Justice - The scales of justice fall when Stronghart is defeated. The weight of his guilt, of all his actions, was so great that it broke the scales of justice. It was his job as Lord Chief Justice to protect and maintain these scales as a judge partial only to the rule of law. But he was corrupted by something else: a lust for power. He tweaked the scales of justice and when they still didn't serve him, he took justice into his own hands. The scales of justice are not meant to be tweaked, otherwise true justice does not exist. In the end, he tweaked them too much and, like Icarus flying too close to the sun, he was burned when they broke and fell. He broke the very thing he was sworn to protect as the highest-ranking judge in Britain. It was said earlier that he fought fire with fire. In the end, all this did was create a flame so great that his efforts to control it were all for naught, and it grew so large that it was noticed by the highest authority in all of Britain. And as we all know, he failed to control it and he got burned by a fire that was now almost entirely of his own making. Another thing to note is that the scales were still imbalanced from Jigoku being found guilty when Stronghart fell and the Scales judged him. That was no accident. Jigoku's crime was just as much Stronghart's crime as it was Jigoku's. The fire that entered the scales when Stronghart fell was the fire of all his other crimes. The crimes were too many and too terrible, and the Scales broke. There's way more, too, but these are probably the coolest symbolisms we can draw from his breakdown. Sorry if I wasn't very eloquent or if I went on too long. Anyways, this just shows how much the developers cared about this game and how much effort they put into the breakdowns. They're not just cool animations! They actually have deeper meanings and I find that incredible. People argue over whether or not games should be considered an art form, and to the naysayers out there I say, "Look no further than The Great Ace Attorney."
@aster-tataricus2 жыл бұрын
I'd like to add (to an incredibly well-detailed comment) the fact that the unicorn is also considered to be the mortal enemy of the lion. Why does this matter? The lion is a national symbol of England and it's monarchy, i.e: the Queen Victoria during that period. The unicorn head on the gavel (to me at least) is a very subtle hint at the fact that Stronghart had been committing treason against the British crown.
@vince89012 жыл бұрын
I would also like to mention that when the scales fall, the fire only erupts from the guilty side. When the innocent side hits the ground there are no flames.

There were those details i missed on the Unicorn gavel that i did not think off it until now. I ended thinking back then that, the unicorn gavel breaking also feels like one off those rituals in wich the sword off the disgraced officer is shattered, ahd the loss off head like...to represent metaphorically over how Stronghart had lost his mind at that point so...a beheaded symbol and a shattered weapon to begin the ritual off his disgraceful fall I dunno if i made sense or if i was redundant but...this is what i like about phoenix wright's breakdowns...they feel very tailored to the guilty party yet with enough detail to sum up the criminal

So now that the truth is out, let's talk about the Professor more in detail. The name itself is likely a reference to Professor Moriarty, the nemesis of Sherlock Holmes, although it's a bit of an odd choice, considering in the game, there would be no reason to call him like that considering the method in which he killed his victims. It's also likely mixed with the story of Jack the Ripper, since the professor had 5 victims, although nobles instead of prostitutes. Klint Van Ziek killed a single noble, but then Stronghart coherced him into killing more, for his own goals. So let me ask you: who is the real Professor? The one who ended the life of several people, or the one who ordered it? EXTRA FUN FACT: The professor theme contain both Stronghart AND Van Ziek theme in it. Peter de Jersey is the actor who voices both Mikotoba (during his “Take That!” during the final Dance of Deduction) and the narrator for the case intros, so that was subtle foreshadowing that Mikotoba was the true Watson the entire time. I absolutely love the fade and transition in the final narration from “Watson” (Mikotoba) to Iris. It’s so beautiful. When I first played GAA2, I binged the whole game in about a week, so I was mentally fried by the end, but I watched that scene for a 2nd time during another LP about a month or two ago, and it nearly made me tear up. P.S. The song that plays during the final confrontation with Stronghart where Holmes breaks out the hologram is “Great Pursuit ~ The Resolve of Ryūnosuke Naruhodō.” It’s basically Naruhodō’s Objection! theme played in the form of a Pursuit theme, and it’s very fitting for the final takedown of the duology.

I want to discuss a final theme of this amazing piece of work: forgiveness. Throughout the entire story we have seen people commit crimes, people who were once viewed as paragons or heroes. Klint van Zieks, John Watson, Tobias Gregson, and Kazuma Asougi. As we discover the truth about them and their crimes start coming to light, it starts to seem as though forgiving such people would be impossible. Yet as we are also continuously told these criminals are at the end of the day, still people. They aren't paragons or heroes and never were, always having a darkness that they hid yet still being very much capable of love and understanding. Klint still loved his brother and his wife and still respected Asogi as a friend even as he died by his sword. Watson and Gregson still loved their nation and Gregson in particular still cared for Gina despite her once being one of the criminals that threatened the peace he loved. Kazuma was blinded by his hatred yet his friendship with Naruhoudo is still able to allow him to see the truth that van Zieks and himself were more similar than he knew. Barok, Gina, Mikotoba and Naruhoudo are able to forgive their friends and family because they understand that for all the darkness that they possessed the love they showed was genuine and because of that the truth doesn't take that love away. Stronghart claimed that people would not be able to handle the darkness that arose from the truth but as the main characters proved, they are able to accept the truth and the darkness of the people closest to them, forgive them, and move on. Barok chooses to remains a prosecutor, Gina chooses to continue her training, and Naruhoudo chooses to finish the dream of reforming the Japanese legal system.

It's pretty cool to see that in the former and kind of sad to see in the latter, though it is still a really good writing moment. But it's really interesting. For a long while I thought that Genshin didn’t trust Seishiro with the whole thing regarding Klint’s child, but I realized recently that it’s because probably bc he knows Seishiro and Stronghart are supposed to pick him up from the cemetery after he broke out. Yujin isnt aware of the plan (and Genhin likely didnt want to involve him too much) since in the flashback hes upset that Genshin has to go though the execution that night. I think Yujin suspected something was up afterwards and found out after returning to Japan.
@tatererer97472 жыл бұрын
He surely knew Seishiro and Stronghart were acquaintances, close enough for Stronghart to start manipulating him. Either way asking Seishiro would be very stupid since Yujin is the only doctor and the woman would be giving birth. Finally Seishiro isn’t stupid, but he didn’t know that Klint was the Professor, and he could probably have worked it out from lady Baskerville giving birth, and that it was a recently departed friend of Genshin’s. Basically Yujin was the GOAT

True, it makes more sense that way, that Genshin does not want Jigoku to go with Yujin, not because he doesn't trust Seichiro, but because of the deal he did. He can't help him get out of the coffin (and the country) with only Stronghart.

Unlike previous entries in the Ace Attorney series, I genuinely feel as though Susato Mikotoba is probably the most well-rounded and generally the best support character when compared to all the other characters we've seen. Unlike Maya (who comes off more as inexperienced despite being helpful), Mia (who only appears in certain moments and tends to lead the flow of conversation rather than let Phoenix take the lead), Trucy (who operates similarly to Maya conceptually), Athena (who is knowledgeable about law but whose inexperience and relative tendency to be emotional sometimes hinders her), and Kay (who also fits the Maya/Trucy bill), Susato gives off the impression that she's someone you really can depend on for both as a knowledge source and as a partner to discuss ideas with. She's often helping Naruhodou with pieces of knowledge he doesn't know about, has a sense of duty that is reflected in her language and actions, and doesn't come off as excessively energetic to the point that she dominates the dialogue. She has her quirks and funny moments, but she acts reserved when needed and doesn't react so suddenly to shocking revelations or things that she doesn't agree with - a character trait that I don't think a lot of past side kicks really demonstrate.

So with the exception of Selden and the first Professor victim literally every death in the two GAA games can be at least indirectly traced back to Stronghart: He assassinated Watson, Mortar Milverton died due to state secrets that he was involved in which later led to the death of Megundal and the pawnbroker, Asa Shinn was only in Japan due to his orders which caused her to be placed in a situation where she could be assassinated, Duncan Ross was killed over the Dog Collar of the man he was blackmailing, Asman was killed by Sithe due to being blackmailed using actions she committed under Stronghart's orders, he ordered the death of Gregson, Genshin Asogi died due to coercing Jigoku and of course all the Professor and Reaper victims were all his doing.

Selden was arrested due in part to stealing that dog collar, and since he was in prison he probably didn't receive the medical care needed to survive whatever ailment he had, which in a roundabout way does actually connect his death to Stronghart. It’s possible that it could be released in the future, but I don’t see it happening. For those that want to see it blind, here is the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sHy0iIRsarCZbKM It starts out after the first trial of the first game. Kazuha and Ryunosuke are back in court. Remember how at the end of the trial, Kazuma cut off Auchi’s topknot? Well, Auchi decided to PRESS CHARGES. The case revolves around Auchi’s feeble attempt to get Kazuma guilty of assault. There is a plot twist though. Remember how Kazuma had to take an exam for the exchange trip? Well, if he was unable to participate, the next highest score would be up for the position. Know who was next in line? PROSECUTOR AUCHI’S SON! Yep! Auchi brought up this BS charge in order to get his son the trip to Britain. I concur that the Layton crossover game is not as good as TGAA, but it's still worth checking out at some point. In every way, its a predecessor to TGAA and the duology wouldn’t exist if not for that game. Shu Takumi worked on it after Apollo Justice, and it had a rough development cycle. him being busy on that game is what led to the mainline ace attorney games afterward being made without him (dual destinies and spirit of justice) and contributed to a lot of the degrading problems that the mainline series has now with keeping the status quo. Shu Takumi had a vision for the apollo justice series and intended to make it a trilogy as with phoenix but without his input that vision was swept under the rug in favor of keeping the series going while he was busy with the crossover game. In that respect it's a bit of a negative, but Takumi admitted in an interview that if he had not worked on the Layton game then he would have kept with a lot of the formulaic nature of previous ace attorney games going forward since he made an effort to try out new mechanics for the crossover, and that he would not have carried over what he learned and experimented with working on that game into the TGAA games, nor have the opportunity to make them at all.

Oh yeah, let me mention one thing! Mael Stronghart (and Klint, somewhat) borrows from one of Sherlock Holmes’s most famous antagonists: Professor James Moriarty. Moriarty was described as a “Machiavellian”, or someone who masterminds crimes, but never gets his own hands dirty directly. Similarly, Lord Stronghart only manipulates certain scenarios and people, but never directly takes another life. Klint murdered the professors victims, and Asa Shinn murdered the Reapers victims. Plus Jigoku had shot both Genshin and Gregson, but under Strongharts orders. So while Stronghart has left a considerable wake of death and destruction, he’s the only villain to never directly kill anybody. Really fascinating I must say!

One of the best things I like about this game is how it has references to practically all the AA games. You got the clap and "for the greater good" murder spree. The prosecutor turned defendant. The prosecutor hating you for misguided reasons. The defendant is actually the criminal. The prosecutor "dying and resurrecting". The defendant ends up coming back to become a detective. A big criminal mastermind. Defending a best friend, etc. probably my biggest laugh was that spirit channeling reference though.

Remember the sins of the father that Ga’ran was threatening Rayfa with in Ace Attorney Spirit of Justice? Well if the truth of Iris Watson father being Klint van Zieks was a serial killer became known to the public and she was known as his daughter, it would be just like that. It seems that is why Mikotoba and Holmes tried to keep Iris from learning who her father really was, to protect her from being ostracized and alienated from society just for being the daughter of a Serial Killer.

The concepts of corruption as seen in Rise from the Ashes and the Dark Age of the Law were expressed through action not just speech. Investigations 1 tried and mostly failed to build a conspiracy, but these two games work together to fully develop all elements of the Professor case. There were absolutely 0 filler cases, and the level of connections between cases surpasses that of Investigations 2. For me, I don’t see this as a sequel to a great game; I see it as the 2nd half of one long awesome game! I think it’s because each game in the main series takes place over the course of a year, and both of these games combined also take place within one year. Perhaps the narrative also helps make this feel like one big game to me, rather than two. In any other Ace Attorney game, there was never a major mystery by the end. Sure, there’d be a question or two lingering on, like “Will Thalassa tell Apollo & Trucy who she really is?”, but they’re not treated as important in the grand scheme of things, unlike the mysteries left behind at the end of the first Great Ace Attorney, involving the names on the Morse code message, as well as the whereabouts of Iris’ father, Barok Van Zieks’ distain for the Japanese, and the mystery of the Hound of the Baskervilles. Once this game finished, everything that was mentioned is neatly tied up. I’m honestly glad we aren’t getting another game with these characters. Ryunosuke’s story is complete, he’s an *Ace Attorney* now! I prefer they keep the end on a high-note, rather than continue a story that’s already complete (I’m looking at you, _Matrix Resurrections!)._ I know more games from this spin-off would be nice, but I don’t see that happening. It doesn’t help that, from what I’ve been told, initial sales for both games didn’t do well, due to the wait between the two, and all of the mysteries left unsolved in the first game staying unsolved for that long because of it, so I don’t think Capcom will do Ace Attorney games with heavy cliff-hangers at the end like in the first Great Ace Attorney, lest they want to take such a big gamble again. I’m hoping the next Ace Attorney game gives us quality like this, but only time will tell. 22:41 Also, Dancing Holmes is fantastic!

Hey NicoB, remember back in episode 31 where your comment said: "In the final deduction, every character in the game is gonna hop up and do Drebber's robot dance." This may not be everyone and the dance is differnet, but Sholmes knows how to bust a move. I loved at this point he is just opening mocking Stronghart now. You have got to love the teamwork and trust going on between Naruhodo and Sholmes. Sholmes knew what was going on, but had no power on his own to bring Stronghart to justice. He then see in Naruhodo the means to do that and takes him under his wing. In this final trial, he gives Naruhodo the evidence and witnessess he needs and trusts in Naruhodo's resolves, skills, and integrity to find out the whole truth. In turn Naruhodo trusts in Sholmes to have a plan for when his back is against the wall. Neither of them could have brought down Stronghart alone, but together with the help of the others as well, Stronghart faces justice for his actions. Such a great dualology. It kicked the original trilogy off the top spot of the Ace Attorney series for me. I hope this rerelease gives this series enough exposure to maybe lead to another game. There are avenues to explore, like Sholmes and Iris in Japan. Maybe bring in a Ace Attorney version of Moriarty. Maybe see some more growth from Asogi as he learns to deal with his perosonal demons.

Agreed. I think so too, it would have definitely made more of an impact and maybe more sense too.
@MaxusFox232 жыл бұрын
You would think the best thing to do was shooting Enoch and bury him instead, yep I thought the same too. I think the only contention point is whether or not Stronghart had the mask key with him to make the switch because I dunno how the hell did Esmeralda have a key herself to properly make a wax figure.
@pauloandrade9252 жыл бұрын
Also killing enoch would of been a terrible thing for them to do since he wasn't supposed to have died so that would of been an Escape AND a murder on top of that. Plus Plus i think Jigoku was the one with the gun too so Yeah

I think what makes this duology special is one has to wonder whenever Ace Attorney would still be alive today without it existing. Yeah, probably a funny comment for some considering we haven't gotten a new game in years, but lemme explain. Ace Attorney after release of Apollo Justice marks a weird era in the franchise where Takumi would be stuck for the few years working on the crossover spinoff with the Layton games and the hold of the main series would be taken over by people who made Investigations games. Dual Destinies due to the freedom that Capcom gave to the developers, telling them they don't have to restraint themselves to what the previous game established felt very experimental in certain areas, with Spirit of Justice seemingly polishing the formula and turning out a pretty decent game as a result. In the meanwhile though, Takumi would start working on Great Ace Attorney and one thing that needs to be established; as of now, The Great Ace Attorney 2 is still the most recent entry in the franchise that isn't a rerelease or a remaster, having released on August 3, 2017 in Japan. And with Spirit of Justice coming out in the West just with the Switch on the horizon and DGS underperforming as it did in Japan, leading to no localization for years, it put series in a state of limbo. But even then, I think DGS might've saved this franchise. Or at least, the passion of the fans did. The first people who made that KZbin channel where they slowly kept on translating the cases, Scarlet Study thanks to which efforts we were able to get a fan patch for the first game, making the game literally jump on the first place in amount of downloads for the paid apps in Japanese App Store when the patch came out, everyone who kept begging Capcom and showed that indeed there is interest. This also might be the reason why they even decided to release the HD remaster of the AA trilogy in 2019, to see whenever interest in this franchise was still genuinely there and wasn't just a loud minority and wouldn't you know it, it sold over a million copies. And now we're here, Takeshi Yamazaki who was responsible for directing Investigations and DD&SOJ having left Capcom in July 2020 (who of course leaving is a bit of a shame), DGS finally having released in the West and apparently sold quite well, and according to the Capcom leak AA7 is a thing that indeed exists and who knows, they might reveal it during this anniversary event. Without DGS and the fans who kept pushing for it who knows how things would've looked for the series now. But it seems after years of uncertainty, the future for the series is now bright. So yeah, thanks Takumi, Nuri, Kitagawa and everyone who has worked on this wonderful duology. You did an amazing job. And well, as for the channel, thank you for this LP, Nico, even if sometimes I did feel disagreement towards your opinions on the older games, it was still overall pretty enjoyable. And now can only look forward to what you will be playing next, with my personal hope you'll start Trails in the Sky in the future! Stay classy.

I will say, with how much this game seems tightly woven, there are some extra tidbits in the gallery that showcase that, no, this game was flying by the seat of its pants at times. Seriously, there are some major twists in the second game, particularly in relation to the Professor, that was not known going into the second installment. The fact it turned out as well as it did is amazing in its own right though.

Watching those credits, saying goodbye to all those characters... I've been transported Ratatouille-style to when I first finished Trials and Tribulations all those years ago. I have to say thanks to everyone involved in this game. To Shu Takumi; for the vision, the writing, the direction, and everything else, thank you. To the writers; for the best Ace Attorney story, characters, and intertwining themes, thank you. To Kazuya Nuri, the concept artists, 3D artists, asset designers, animators, background artists, mocap actors/engineers; for the visual life you brought to the game, and for how far we've come since the Dual Destinies jank, thank you. To the programmers, data specialists, front-end developers, dialogue engineers; for making this game a reality, working both hard and smart, from a programmer who knows how it be, thank you. To the people keeping development ticking, the general admin office-workers communicating and documenting, the legal team who worked around the Holmes issue for the eventual international release, the IT specialists and technicians, thank you. To Yasuma Kitagawa, the other composers, the musicians, sound effects artists, voice actors; for your extended contributions to my ears, thank you. To Nico, for this playthrough, hours of voice acting, on-the-fly bits and references, tons of editing, and for just "getting it" about the games you play, if you read this or not, thank you. To the commenters, who helped me realise how much more amazing (somehow!) this game is than I thought when I played through for myself, thank you.

Van Zieks is my favorite prosecutor and Holmes is just one of the best ace attorney side characters ever. You know what? I didn't realize it in my own playthrough, but Daly's final scene--with the Redheads--strikes a wildly different, and kinda heartwarming note, when you remember they're the ones who assaulted him. I'd like to believe he opened up to them, and found peace. Considering his wife's station, I'm sure he'll be out and about sooner and not later...

When the LP of TGAA 1 came into the channel I almost didn’t watch it as at the moment I hadn’t seen or played any of the other AA games and wasn’t really all that interested in them, but boy oh boy am I glad I didn’t commit that mistake and instead got to experience this masterful piece of storytelling with you all. There’s a lot of great things in this game duology that I could talk about, but I think we all know the gist of it so I’ll summarize my thoughts of these games in one simple word: Fantastic.

I’m sure all the picky penguins will agree with me in saying that these comment sections for your TGAA playthroughs have been some of the best I’ve ever seen in a series you’ve done. Everyone has been super informative, funny, and thoughtful. It’s really felt like a super close-knit community. (But honestly, it’s been great on every AA game you’ve done.) You’ve brought so much life and joy to AA fans new and old!!! All of this wouldn’t be possible without you, so thank you, Nico! We will miss you playing Ace Attorney dearly. Here’s to hoping for another installment in the series sometime soon!!

It's notable that all of this happened because Genshin chose to hide the truth in order to protect Klint's reputation. Contrast this with Ryunosuke's ideal of always pursuing the truth, which enables Strongheart to finally be brought down.
@bunni25832 жыл бұрын
I'm really glad to see you enjoyed the ending so much! I've seen a few people complain about the particular way this case resolve, calling it an anticlimax or a deus ex machina, but I personally like it a lot as a way to defeat Stronghart; his entire motivation is based around authority and control, all working towards his dream of a crime-freee utopia with himself as an ultimate dictator. He's worked for a decade to reach that goal, positioning himself as a ruler over all others, one who absolutely must be obeyed and whose power stretches far beyond his official jurisdiction. Ultimately, he has his sights on becoming Her Majesty's attorney general, but therein lies the fatal flaw of his plan: even at the absolute peak of his power, he will always be subservient to the monarchy. There is no possible future in which he has control over the queen, and so he seeks merely to escape her notice as his power is entrenched. Herlock's sudden hologram may come a little out of nowhere, but exposing Stronghart's crimes to the Queen really is the perfect defeat for someone like Stronghart, showing that, even at his most successful, he will never have the absolute power he craves so much.
@Lily-tr7hj2 жыл бұрын
What I absolutely adore about these two games that even from the very beginning in the first case of the first game, things have been tied to the final case of the second game; they have been planning this from the very beginning. I agree with Nico, I don't think it's possible to get more of a perfect game than this.
@netherfire502 жыл бұрын
You know what? Holmes inventing Holograms in like the end of the 19th century totally makes sense. After all, in AA times we have Little Thief, the MASON System, Widget, etc. All these future tech gadgets, so I can believe this. And it is amazing
@Mr96POP2 жыл бұрын
I’ll admit that it took me 4 months to figure out how I felt about the holograms (as they left me conflicted), but now, I’m okay with it for this reason: It’s less about “I wrote myself into a corner and need a magical deus ex machina” and more “this is just a fancier, glorified telephone.” Had Holmes just set up a telephone for Victoria to hear the court proceedings, it would accomplish the exact same thing. The hologram itself wasn’t the “solution” to taking down Stronghart. You already proved his guilt. All Holmes needed was for the Queen to listen in to the proceedings, so the hologram is just a fancier way of doing so.
@XdarkmarioX2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the hologram is purely there for the player to have something to look at while Holmes lays out how fucked Stronghart is.
@masked_mizuki2 жыл бұрын
But thats the thing, the hologram isnt the Deus Ex Machina It's Sholmes and the Queen as a whole. This whole game is about an enormous chunk of "the government is corrupt, the people should change the system" and then how does it end? With the highest government official in London, one that we have never met even a single time, actually being the purest soul all along and firing the bad person. It goes so hard against the themes of this duology in a way, that is just not done well at all, the game gains nothing by having Victoria there suddenly at the end. They couldve had the trial shown somehow to the entirety of all commoners in London via the literal same technology, and have the people rile up against the corrupt government and change it from the ground up. Something similar to what they *LITERALLY DID* in Spirit of Justice, where the person in charge of the law was dethroned by her own loyal guards at the end cause even they didnt believe she should be in charge anymore. It wouldve worked so much better as a final showcase of the game's themes, but they didnt commit to it in its most important moment, and that will always be why that moment is a huge stain on this entire duology.
@Noah-ws8ho2 жыл бұрын
@@masked_mizuki It really can't be described as a "deus ex machina". It's not *that* surprising that the Queen would be against it, not least because Stronghart specifically did it behind her back, also partially in an attempt to manipulate her. I also don't think that a piece of media necessarily has to double down on a theme at every possible occasion for it to be reasonable. Presenting it as "Status and presentation does not guarantee morality, stay vigilant no matter the exterior virtues they may show" in the way that they did is to me honestly much more appealing than if they were to just turn every single person with power into a comic-book evil character. Power also wasn't really main element that united the thematic of the game. Beside Lord Stronghart, the characters that ended up failing their virtues were Klint van Zieks, and Kazuma. These were not people with great power, rather, they were people that (like Stronghart) gave off an image of extreme moral purity (to Barok and Naru specifically). That's the main thematic of the game. Role models losing their glamour.

Stronghear tis a damn good villain, hell he's like the one villain who couldn't be beaten directly in the court, it took the queen herself stepping in to strip him ofpower for him to be defeated.

Thanks for the amazing playthrough Nico! The great ace attorney really is just the best. This game just oozes love from every angle,and I think that's mostly due to Shu Takumi's incredibly focused and heartfelt vision as a director for the series;it's always been his baby,and his desire to constantly evolve these games in new and interesting directions really just shows,the 3DS games,which handled by other people,just can't compare,. It's a shame that these games just sorta sold bad upon release,but I hope the international release gave it enough traction so that we'll be able to see a sequel in the near future! It's already been 5 years since TGAA2,the longest gap between any games in the series,after all (if you count in the Edgeworth spin-offs). If there's any game I wanna recommend you experience sooner or later,it's definitely Higurashi,and I'm just gonna keep shilling it until the end of time. It's actually my favourite story of any media ever, and it has changed how I view life in a lot of ways. I could never do it justice with just a description,so I hope it's in the cards!
