A typical day for an ABA Therapist at Brett DiNovi & Associates is documented from beginning to end. Joe Carter assigns a case to a clinician based on expertise, location, and many other factors. This episode documents Pam Marshall facilitating a typical community activity in a real-world setting. Behavior Analysis best generalizes when implemented in these naturalistic settings as opposed to the old school style of sitting at a table doing discrete trials.
See if your learner qualifies for ABA services by Brett DiNovi & Associates by emailing linda@brettdassociates.com or carli@brettdassociates.com
Brett DiNovi is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst & the founder & CEO of the largest award-winning behavioral consultation group of its kind on the East Coast of the United States which deploys over 550 consultants across 250 school districts/agencies throughout NJ, PA, CA, NY, DE, FL & worldwide through the use of remote video consultation.

Brett has the unique and distinguished experience of studying the principles of applied behavior analysis under the rigorous scrutiny of both Dr. Julie S. Vargas (formerly Skinner) and Dr. E.A. Vargas at West Virginia University's internationally recognized program. For the past 27 years, Brett has used behavior analytic principles to create large-scale change across school districts, fortune 500 companies using principles of organizational behavior management (OBM), and across individual learners. Brett has been a OBM consultant in Morgantown WV, an instructor at West Virginia University, a guest lecturer at numerous universities, a speaker on multiple Comcast Newsmakers TV programs, an expert witness in due process hearings, has publications in the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, and has been in in executive leadership positions across schools and residential programs nationwide. In addition to an award from South Jersey Biz Magazine for "Best Places to Work," & an award for "Best of Families" in Suburban Magazine, & and the distinguished "Top Ranked U.S. Executives" award, Brett's proudest accomplishment is being a role model and father for his daughter and two stepchildren (one of which has autism).

Advice to all current or training ABA therapists: NEVER EVER suppress stimming (hand flapping, finger flicking etc.) unless it is harming the individual, somebody else, or property. Stimming, while it might look “odd”, is actually very beneficial to autistic people. It helps to either provide or block out stimulation so that we can focus better and not get overwhelmed.

I agree or strengthen a stim that serves the same function that makes the individual happy to

"Stimming, while it might look “odd”, is actually very beneficial to autistic people" Another case of generalising in a spectrum world. My son's stims which are pseudo stims are not beneficial, instead they wind him up further and cause eventual tissue damage. Being self-injurious these stims need to be curtailed where possible

Yes, that is exactly what is stated in the code of ethics for behavior analysts. We don’t target behaviors because they look weird or whatever. If a behavior does not pose a threat to the individual’s health, their learning, or their environment, we will not target those behaviors.

So glad to see this. We're going to start ABA with our 15 yo autistic son and the thing I was worried about is stimming...I want him to be able to stim and calm himself still.

Im tearing up! For nearly 5 years now, i've been working as a caregiver and medtech for elderly with dementia, alzheimer's, and parkinson. Since I found out about ABA, I thought I'd like to work with kids! Although I love my seniors and the advice they've given me all these years, I think I am ready to expand my experience. I love helping people in need and i think thats my calling. I have BS in Health Science emphasis in community health education. I'm not sure if my study and work experience will qualify me but I really want to experience working with these kids. I hope get in!

@@TheBdinovi1 Thank you. Its funny because my professor just informed our class about this certification on Tuesday night. She mentioned that she was studying to become an ABA at the beginning of the semester and when I asked her what school she was attending, she said "Oh, I don't tell all of my business!" Well, she must have forgotten she said that and spilled the tea. 😉🤗So, I went home and did a little research. I think I've found a program/school I'm interested in. Im in grad school right now so I'll probably wait until after graduation to complete this program. I said all that to say "I have no idea how this video ended up in my feed, but it must be confirmation that I'm headed in the right direction. "Patience, my dear child." 😇Thank you for reaching out. Continue to be a blessing to others. She's a star!

facebook.com/groups/parentsofchildrenwithspeechandlanguagedelays/?ref=bookmarks The way it would work is that we would agree on a date at ur choosing u could do a live facebook stream and parents have the opportunity to ask questions. This is all we require, if you wish to offer more than that then great, currently the other therapists do regular streams & share their own personal clips. I hope to hear from you Elizabeth.
