Seems like a good time. Tough but something worth doing. Good memories. Being with people that have the same interest in sailing. Can't go wrong.

Wow, that would be so much fun! now I need another boat... something I could trailer. Congrats on your weight loss & getting back out on the water. Well done.

Thank you. It is fun, although you don't always realize it till it's over, hehe

Awesome video Ziggy! This is what I suspect my old friend John Alesch would have agreed with were he still with us. I'm glad you included the part at the end about it not being for beginners, because the TX 200 is definitely not!

true! I have over 50 yrs of sailing behind me but with 35 ft deep keel rigs. Even with that, learning small boat sailing is a different animal. cousins but different.... shit gets real out there....
@timwebb8153 Жыл бұрын
@@ZiggyLavengood Yeah, I considered doing the 200 with my Daysailer, but thought better of it. She was OK for the FL 120, but that's a way different animal. I might have tried the 200 with the RS22 if we hadn't moved to CA right after I got it.

@timwebb8153 I have been taking my MacGregor classic to Florida every year and sailing choctahatchee Bay, bouncing from destin to ft Walton over 2 weeks or so for kicks. I've not heard of the Florida 120, maybe I should look into that as well.

@@Hondo76251 It's a raid type event, every year the week after Mothers' Day. The route/stops can change year to year, but it's mostly between Big Lagoon to the West and Spectre Island to the East, with stops along the way.
@Hondo76251 Жыл бұрын
@timwebb8153 that does look like a good time! Certainly a fun place to cruise around, I've been to spectre Island a few times but usually don't go much farther west from there.

Thanks for the video! Been thinking of doing the 200 for a few years. Have a MacGregor 26D and a hobie/holder 14. The old mac classic would be more comfortable but the little hobe one seems more in keeping with the spirit of the event
@ZiggyLavengood Жыл бұрын
true. This run was originally for small wood home builds to fight to the end in the shallows. us bigger plastic boats have changed the flavor drastically. cabins are sweet when the wind is blowing all night but the little boats do get to explore more.
@Hondo76251 Жыл бұрын
@ZiggyLavengood that's what I've seen. I do make the rounds with my mac26, even got a blow up mattress pump on the water ballast to lift me out of the muck should I get in a bit too far, but this looks like an especially exciting challenge on the smaller boats so that is what intrigues me. I've looked at the rosters and and videos of the boats that made it, I'd think I would stand a fair chance in the "hobie ONE." I ranch in Wyoming, learned to sail when stationed in California. I'm a better survivalist than a sailor for sure, but I've been sailing quite a lot in the last 20 years for someone this land locked 😆 What advice would you have if I considered outfitting the little hobie for this adventure?
@ZiggyLavengood Жыл бұрын
a lot of ppl do it in mayfly 14s. Just pack light and embrace the suck, hehe... The weak point of most boat failures is the rudder. bullet proof that and put a cpl of reef points in the main. @@Hondo76251
@Hondo76251 Жыл бұрын
@ZiggyLavengood yeah, definitely need some reef points sailing up here too. Big winds out of nowhere are pretty common. The hobie does have a roller furling jib but without any reef points in the main it's pretty hard to make progress to windward, or even much above a reach, in a stiff blow. Looks like your little trimaran worked out pretty well, she scoots right along!

hey Ziggy, since the Windrider's rudder isn't retractable, do you have trouble when beaching, running aground, or loading on trailer etc?
@ZiggyLavengood Жыл бұрын
No problem. The keel is designed to protect it

The freeze dried stuff - do you eat the bag or the stuff in the bag or both? I tried the walmart alpine house freeze dried food. It wasn't good.

I get the mountain house brand. Always good. Biscuits and gravy is the best breakfast. Lasagna is my favorite dinner.
