Correction, the statue at 3:45 is Tom Mboya who was assassinated in 1969 in the streets of Nairobi and not Omollo Odinga. And also the father of Raila Odinga is Jaramogi Oginga and not Omollo Odinga.

The street in named City Walk because of the Cityhall building which is just along the street and serves as the office of the governor of Nairobi county. It is not named after a shop.
@beyawamwenyee Жыл бұрын
it's called city walk because it's the only non-motorized street in Kenya where you just walk. no vehicles or motorbikes using that route. it begins from cooperative house passes through national bank house to electricity house to kencom.

And also note electric trains are also available in Ethiopia and other African countries,the Kenya sgr has a provision to be electrified
@tnndo Жыл бұрын
The building that was bombed is Cooperative bank building (Currently serves as host to the office of the Attorney General) and not the National Bank as said by our guide. CBK pension plaza serves as the host to Kenya Revenue Tax Appeals Tribunal, the other building is called International House and not international Centre, the building in red is Kenya Reinsurance Plaza if am not wrong coz it seems to have been repainted,
@derrickmutuma7185 Жыл бұрын

Electric trains in Africa are more common than the guy taking you round thinks. Ethiopia, Djibouti, Senegal, Tz, SA, all of north africa have electric trains. Ivory coast are also building an electric line in Abidjan. Some countries are just sleeping as usual.

At 3:52 thats Tom Mboya (independence era minister from Homabay in the lake Victoria region), the man behind the Kenya Airlift Program that helped so many Kenyans go for studies in the US, Barack Obama senior was a beneficiary of that program and thats how he met president Barack Obama juniors mother in Hawaii, where the junior guy was born, later on to become US president. He was assassinated at that very spot the monument stands). I feel misrepresented by your guides

Thanks for summoning the vlogger behind the tent.😄
@kenfishpeter Жыл бұрын
City Hall Way at 6:58 is not City Walk, it's the road leading to the county government offices for Nairobi, the building itself is City Hall and is the office of Nairobi County Government. Again, KENCOM is short of Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), the older name of the bank but nowadays it's just KCB. The house is the headquarters of the bank which has branches in Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda Burundi, DRC, South Sudan and are just getting into Ethiopia, I know there is a KCB in Uganda. You're missing out a lot from your guides. Cooperative Bank you're being told is bomb blast also has branches all over Uganda and South Sudan. In the area where you have walk there is so much history and power behind the Kenya you see. The red building seen from 7:52 is the Kenya Reinsurance headquarters. Kenya Re reinsures business across the world, not just Africa. They own the building but are housed in Upper Hill where they have their headquarters. The down town you're told is haphazard is actually old town, and is slowly fading away with newer buildings, some buildings there are build in 1900. That's where busies from Kenyan coast, Uganda, Tanzania and elsewhere in east Africa end up. it's a small area. I could go on and on. I wish you get more informed Kenyans next time.
@jamesmaina7004 Жыл бұрын
This tour guide is so pedestrian,,, haphazard info
@tnndo Жыл бұрын
Just disappointed at how our guide misled you at the statue. It is for the gentleman by the name Thomas Joseph Mboya popularly known as Tom Mboya, a revolutionary trade unionist who's political impact was felt not only in Africa but also in the United States of America, a comrade in arms alongside Martin Luther King Jr and President J.F Kennedy when it came to the airlift programme which saw America get the first black president of the United States Barrack Obama. Tom Mboya and Martin Luther King were both assassinated during periods of social and political upheaval in 1969 and 1968 respectively.

@alexchui3511 Жыл бұрын
Kenyans came up with this ignorant reasoning that West of Moi Avenue is uptown and East of it is downtown. The whole town is downtown/city centre/CBD whichever way one wants to call it. Even those people who you would think are learned say the same thing. I've tried to correct this in many videos but it seems like no one cares to read or listen.

Yeah...he also gave the wrong name for the monument near the Kenya Archives. The monument is for Tom Mboya not Omollo Odinga and the street on the right from where you are is named after him.
