I thought postwar ones didn't have the height adjuster? Glad you like it. The plug was cut off when I got it, and cord ruined. Cord is vintage, plug is 80s off a travel iron. Also it may not have had a 2 pin originally- Different regions of the UK had different plugs so usually the appliances were not sold with plugs attached.

That "janky plug adapter" as you call it, Big Clive calls "Death-dapter." There are a couple of work arounds to this though, your Y-cable is one, another is getting the appropriate adapter for a dryer outlet or even a range outlet to a NEMA 240 V 15 or 20 A adapter and putting a NEMA 240 V plug on the vacuum itself is another. The last way is getting one of those step up transformers, but not sure how well that would work here.
