When I lived in the Philippines, this was a common piece of software and malware was still spread via USBs. Most internet cafe PCs ran either Windows XP or Windows 7; never on the latest updates. It does actually work against commonly spread autorun malware over there, but it's weird that it doesn't just disable autorun outright.

When in doubt, hold the Shift key when inserting a USB stick or optical disc. This temporarily disables autorun. The same advice applies for starting up Windows, where holding Shift prevents autorun.

Well, useful, but in a sketchy way. In the end, Microsoft did publish an update which turned off Autorun for removable media by default. THAT was the actual useful thing. Whereas this prevented you from setting a label for your USB ever again, unless you formatted the USB or had access to some funny Linux distro.

Just making an .OLD file would not really be a vaccine, as malware could easily restore the malicious file.

As an indonesian myself, I've always found SmadAV to be very sketchy. I wouldn't exactly trust our own people with cybersecurity, we're generally just not very great at it. "fixing broken registry" already sounds very vague, what exactly are they "fixing" that's "broken"? It's placebo at best, and a work of some script-kiddies at worst. Always go with something more reputable when it comes to data protection; it being "karya anak bangsa" doesn't cut it.
