The freedom to walk in nature also brings responsibility. Everything must be left as it was when it arrived. You cant cut down trees or cause other destruction, but you may collect berries and mushrooms and walk and be. Even mountain biking is everyone's right, but in nature reserves it can be restricted if necessary. Personally, I at least want my future grandchildren to be able to enjoy the same things that I myself have experienced.

Well said ! I also want the same for my future family 🤍🍀

You must remember the responsibility of staying on another's land! No traces in nature, none must be left.
@jarnovilen5259Ай бұрын
Maybe not none, but not anything of substantial harm. There is a clear law about this. It is not like you say, you can even harvest many things from the privately owned lands and it leaves marks to the nature. So yes, you can leave traces, as any creature does when roaming the forests, but you may not inflict harm to the nature or properties.

This a cool aspect of FInland that I didn't know about. Would be interesting to do an evaluation of whether this principle is feasible in other countries.

Freedom to roam is essential part of mental health. Humans have some kind of urge to spend time in the nature, away from concrete and pavement. Almost hardwired need to smell the fresh air and campfire. Freedom to roam of course doesn't apply everywhere, you can't go to private backyards for example. Be mindful of other people, don't bother or annoy others.

At the same time, almost no one is really taking advantage of the freedom to roam right. I wouldn't be shocked to hear if it's less than 10% of the population that goes outdoors into areas where that right is needed.

"void left by declining organized religion"... Hmm. Some people seem to be fairly lacking in their own cognitive ability to find guidelines for their own ethical judgement and selection of base values. They don't seem to have clear enough moral intuition or reasoning and that could be described as void of such ability. This can be exploited by organized religions or crime groups etc. Many people do have fairly functional ability to make these judgments with experience or simply studying the topic and what others have found to be useful and why. Even religions do have some useful ethical teachings.

You cant camp anywhere without land owner permission. Its against law.
@jarnovilen5259Ай бұрын
In Finland you can camp TEMPORARILY for example for a night or two. It is totally legal and acceptable here in Finland. Only the areas that are put to use or the grounds of buildings are restricted by law. So you can't camp on someones back yard or in the fields. Also Nature reserves and natural parks (usually) are restricted but natural parks have designated areas for camping. Anywhere else you are allowed to camp. The Archipelago named Ahvenanmaa is probably the only exception in Finland in that regard that is not that well accepted to camp there even though it is not illegal. The bigger Islands are inhabited but not that big and that is why it is not recommended to camp there because it may disturb the locals as there is not that much space around as in the mainland. The uninhabited islands exist in abundance and are of course a good place to camp if you have access to them, also in Ahvenanmaa area. Permanent camps are not allowed anywhere but your own land or for a rent in camping sites.

@jarnovilen5259Ай бұрын
@@finnishview2933 There are some stupid aholes in Finland too obviously, but we do not care about them (you). Two nights (at least) is widely accepted to be temporary camping even though temporary is not specified in law. And that is why especially in the wilderness in the northern and some eastern parts of Finalnd temporary may well be much longer as the distances are quite substancial. No one cares if you camp for 2-5 nights in your long trek to get rest. These people who do not accept the jokahenkilönoikeus (every humans right) are a very rare and despised people in Finland. But even we do have a couple of them. But we do not mind, there is nothing these hicks can do about it. They are considered mostly just rueful.
