i understand that insane and bizzare varients like this would need heavy alteration in the manufaturing industry but this would be an incredible hulldown vehicle. minus the age and steel armor this would be a great auto emplacement if given a backhoe or plow. that armor must be THIIICCCC. i get that most (if not all) situations in modern warfare dont need a super heavy hulldown emplacement but still it would be a really neat idea

This looks pretty cool and imaginative! I can tell you had lots of fun with this project, and at the end of the day, that's what our hobby is all about! I did something similar about twenty years ago, and made a Abrams-based tank destroyer with elements of a Jagdpanzer IV and the Swedish Stridsvagn 103, by designing a low-profile upper deck. I also used similar "design solutions" that you did by relocating the driver hatch to the side. That said, I used a simpler, much less expensive kit as the basis for my conversion; the 1988 ESCI/ERTL M1 Abrams. Basically, my idea was kind of like a "pencil-on-paper sketch," while your use of the Rye Field Model turned your project into an "oil-on-canvas painting." (If nothing else, the ESCI/ERTL kit had "link-and-length" tracks that went together in a fraction of the time.) Thanks for sharing your skills and imagination! 62nd Like.
@MTspeed_CraftsАй бұрын
That sounds really cool! Ya I choose the more expensive model for the parts to use on another “creation” lol
@modelermark172Ай бұрын
@@MTspeed_Crafts That sounds like it would work well; at least nothing will be 'wasted.' But a project like this one does not need individual track links to get the point across. More to the point, I've been complaining lately about the lack of inexpensive model kits made from last-generation tooling, that could have a new life as "practice, budget-friendly" models for young beginners, and "nostalgic, budget-friendly" builds for us old-timers. (Though companies like Glencoe and Atlantis seem to understand this.) Your "Jagdpanther" Abrams and my "Jagdpanzer IV / Strv 103 Abrams" don't need "state-of-the-art" kits for what should be quick, fun builds. As a sidebar, are you familiar with some of the pioneers of modern model building like Sheperd "Shep" Paine, François Verlinden, Bob Letterman, and Lewis Pruneau? I was fortunate enough to have been a member of the IPMS Gateway Chapter in St. Louis, Missouri, at the same time as Mr. Letterman and Mr. Pruneau. I even got to meet M. Verlinden, though I never had the opportunity to meet Shep Paine (though is works still are a big part of my modeling experience.) I'll check out some of your other videos . . . .

I used to hate the fact that the Abrams turret is asymmetrical, but over the years it has become my favorite thing about it, its that little quirk that makes it unique. My thoughts about this cursed thing has gone thru a similar journey over the course of the video. In the end I really dig it!

Without a moving turret, you might consider lowering the height of the main body of the vehicle by I don't know maybe half an inch? Most "'jagd''versions of WW2 tanks tended to be lower than their turreted counterparts. One of the reasons they were able to operate more stealhly. Anyhow thanks for this remarkable build from an alternate timeline...
