After many years of watching great drummers, listening to the advice of master teachers and working to improve my own technique I've finally managed to wrap my head around the concept and break it down into four distinct elements: fulcrum, home position, the stabilizers and the springs. Each element has a unique role to play in the position of the hands and it important to understand each one.
This video contains written explanations in conjunction with multiple camera angles, still pictures and slow motion examples that breaks down stick grip into the four elements. I hope it helps!
