I actually work in a nursing home and the holidays are a magical time for us there too. I absolutely love it (not just for time and a half even though that is a wonderful practice). What's different there is that people are allowed to leave, so when you work the holidays the number of people you have to actually provide care for decreases dramatically. This allows you to actually have meaningful conversations with these people who have lived such rich lives and have so much wisdom to give. ...Also our cooks outdo themselves and the residents and staff have something of a full christmas meal together, just with the staff taking turns between being at the table and keeping everything else in order.

I hope you had a very merry Christmas and a happy near year! I just stumbled across your videos and they are truly great...I don't have a medical condition that has impacted greatly on my life, so can't exactly relate in that aspect, but your spirit, your bubbliness (not sure that's a word),the warmth of your personality...I can relate to your humanity or rather your human-ness? (if that at all makes sens 0.o.) Strange stranger praising aside...those sweet potato patties sound very similar to a traditional dish we have here in South Africa called 'pampoenkoekies' (pumpkin fritters). Served with cinnamon sugar or caramel sauce, they are amazing!

Very cool post! I have kind of the flip side of spending Christmas in a hospital. I am a health care worker and have spent nearly all of my Christmases as a working adult, working in group homes that serve persons with disabilities and health care issues. I actually love spending Christmas in this way. It gives me a whole new perspective on what Christmas is supposed to be about..Christ and what did Christ say,he said "when you've done it unto the least of these, you've done it unto me" So I kind of feel like Im bringing a gift to the manager by working on this holiday. Most of my co workers who choose to work on this day, feel the same way. We also go out of our way to look festive and cook extra food and bring joy to the people we serve. LOL and it does get me out of all the family get togethers as well, guilt free, because Im going such a "great thing" in their eyes, by working on this day.......oh and there's one more thing I wanted to share w you. Completely off the holiday subject, but I remember you posting a video about your week on steroids and I have actually recently had this week and now I get what you were saying! I had to take high doses of prednisone for my severe asthma and OMG, I was bouncing off the walls, as in I was up all night cleaning my house and couldn't sleep to save my soul. My apt is the cleanest its ever been and I am praying I will never have to take this nasty stuff again as I don't enjoy feeling this wound up. Anyway, I love how realistic your videos are and Im glad I subscribed to your site.

Unfortunately christmas in hospistal isn't that "good" for everyone. I was in hospital last christmas, due to anorexia and it was horrible and extremely sad. My mother was only allowed to visit me for like 3 hours and only until 8 p.m., i was fed trough a nasogastric tube, i wasn't allowed to leave the station at all, i didn't have any christmas decoration, the nurses were rude and i was the only patient on the station who wasn't allowed to go home over christmas. so i was alone there the whole day except for the 3h visit from my mom. i hated it and cried almost the whole day

@hannahlenk74268 жыл бұрын
those are no negative vibes, i wanted to share experiences. being sick ist upsides AND downsides.
@Kaalyn_HOW8 жыл бұрын
To the others who came in with pitchforks for zebresel_ for sharing her experience...? Yes, just because Claire likes to keep things positive and remind people in a seemingly terrible situation about the positives, it doesn't mean that _other_ frequent hospital-goers aren't allowed to share their experiences, too. Doing that is also about camaraderie for those who DON'T have the kind of luck she's been able to find and create. I am another hospital frequenter and, bc my condition isn't terminal and I'm no longer on the kids wing, it's anything but fun during the holidays. Staff can get really grumpy for having to work on then; if you don't have a decent family (which many of us with severe illnesses don't) you just get left there for days on end; and the visiting situation is entirely different in many places and can be downright terrible. So, OP wasn't scaring anyone off or "being negative". They were sharing their experience and it, in effect, reaches out to the rest of us who have had (or WILL have) bad experiences. That isn't being negative or going against Claire's efforts here. Just because YOU didn't wanna hear about OP's experience doesn't mean there aren't/won't be a bunch of others who will feel better knowing they weren't the ONLY ones who had a terrible time there. Also, it's helpful to share things like that bc it reminds people that it ISN'T always okay to be in the hospital. It can also remind nursing and hospital staff that we're alone and in pain, encourage friends and family to try a little harder to brighten up our days, and for people in general to just be more kind and thoughtful and supportive to those who did nothing wrong to suffer as they are in the first place. Also "that's a completely different situation"? No, not really. And many relate to it. And to the second "don't give off fucking negative vibes to other sick people"? Orrrrr we could "not give off negative vibes" to THIS sick person? I'm pretty sure Claire would prefer we find unity and understanding in one another. Encourage people to share their experiences so people can get it and care. Not all of life is positive or okay. And Claire and her family openly recognize that a lot. So by talking about it, we reach out to those who needed it, educate those who don't, and work to make things better. Neither of the above comments do that. They only shame and attack. If you want to be a crusader for Claire's positive messages, embody the supportive, empathic, kind energy she puts forth to understand another person.

Hi Claire have been an admirer of yours for awhile,I really get this, No I mean I Really get this,I am 43 I have gone back to college,getting my degree in Social work ...child life which unless you have been the recipient of child life therapy you have No idea what that is!!! am I right??? But I digress I spent literally my whole childhood in and out of the hospital. I do not have CF but I do have severe childhood onset Juevenille rheumatoid arthritis JRA. I always thought that I hated the hospital,I always cried and pleaded not to go,but the real truth was is that WAS my story and did make me the unique young womanI am today.I enjoyed reading a book by an author called Laura Rosenthal called Breathing for a living.In the book she put words to something I could never quite articulate,she said "I am a part of the hospital,and the hospital is a part of me , " oh and the part you said about being away from the people we love and then realizing ...these are those people the nurses, the doctors the pts and lots they truly do love and care for me!!!!
@rondal300210 жыл бұрын
Hi, I read Laura's book as well. I also enjoyed reading a blog and watching videos from a Canadian woman named Eva Maakort. I may have spelled her name wrong but her blog was called 65redroses so if you google that you can find out about it. She called her blog 65redroses, because when she was a kid, she thought that cystic fibrosis was pronounced 65redroses. She would tell people that that's what she had 65redroses. Very positive young lady.

@ClairityProject10 жыл бұрын
Of course i love being home for the holidays but we don't always have control over where we are or what is happening in our lives so it's good to just accept stuff and find the fun parts
