That elastic looks like the stuff they use on camis or inside garments so they stay on hangers😊 I use a stilletto to protect my fingers when I'm quilting. Have a wonderful time with your sister😊

Ooooh I'll have to look out for one of them - I do like to hear about things I don't have in the sewing room so that I can have a little spend on line 😁 I think you are right about the elastic might think about putting loops inside my garments that slip off the hangers all the time 🥰xx

Nice to see you pop up with another vlog Karen and I loved your Zadie dress and new fabrics. Enjoy your trip down to us in the south. I actually worked in a BBC building not far from Goldhawk Road nearly 30 years ago! I could kick myself now as I didn’t sew then but walked past the fabric shops all the time. 🤦🏻♀️. If for any reason you don’t make it, especially if public transport lets you down, then another alternative is Walthamstow market in the east end of London. on the Victoria Line. It’s full of fabric shops there too. Believe it or not, I lived there 40 years ago and I wasn’t sewing then either! I am tempted to have a trip back down memory Lane though and have a wander down the market. Anyway, enjoy your concert, safe travels and I look forward to hearing all about your adventure. Take care. X

Hi Melanie, thank you so much that's really useful to know - I may persuade my sis to do both ?!? 😁 I went to New York with my sis a few years ago and we stayed in the Garment district and I didn't sew then either so I feel Ya! Mind you we spent enough on trips theatre visits and all the lovely grub so I can't imagine how much I would have gone through if I had sewed then - if I'd been you it would have been so hard to walk all the way down Goldhawk without spotting something so perhaps a good job you didn't sew either? Take care Lovely 🥰xx

I’ve used a narrow clear elastic which stretches really well to gather. I think it was in one of the Advent Calendars from Beyond the Pink Door

hi Karen I got used to sewing elastic when I made my daughters stash of fitted nappies last year - main tip is DONT CUT THE ELASTIC....I watched dozens of you tube videos before I got the hang of it. Cut it after you've finished. I also got used to stretching it hard before starting - it does 'relax' a bit - except for that wierd stuff youve bought....😉...not sure whats going on there! Always enjoy your videos Have fun Shirley x

@@karensewsslowly That’s a good idea and easy to transport I have a hold all type bag and the handle slides inside so you can wheel it or carry it ideal for on a plane and acts as hand luggage I’m sure you will find something that works Bet you are excited to see all the fabric shops There is certainly so much more in the UK than we have in Australia I’m doing ok getting there slowly just set me back a few weeks trying not to let it get me down as you probably have been many times so understand it’s trying at times ❤️

Sam from Frugalisima has done a blog on gathering with elastic x
@sew_So_beautiful8 ай бұрын
You need to cut a little more elastic than you need, and mark a line at the length you need, and pin it in place if you need to. That way, you have a little tab to hold on to as😂 you get to the end of the gathering point.

I use the clear “elastic “ for shoulder seams on jersey fabrics (usually the thinner one) to stop them stretching . Yes I think I would be annoyed paying for basically rectangles to make the Zadie dress. Enjoy Goldhawk Road - I didn’t buy a lot when I went but it was lovely to see all the different shops.
@karensewsslowly7 ай бұрын
I really could've bought more Claire but I had to get back to my hotel in Leicester Square and then the following day about 6 tubes to get to a station where my sis and me could be picked up so was painfully aware that I had to stop otherwise I wouldn't have been able to manage all the fabric.🥰xx

I do find it frustrating that pattern companies charge for add ons rather than just tell you the measurements of something so simple. Your Sadie dress looks lovely. You’ll have to make a few more to get your money’s worth out of it 😂

Next one I make will be a nice stable fabric that doesn't walk off the table whilst you are cutting it! Happy sewing Julie 🥰xx

Hi Karen. Lovely newsy chat as usual. I bought some of that clear elastic too. Right little toad to work with! Obviously I bought a great big reel of it because it’s cheaper. Could I just warn you to actually trial it on a scrap before you ever have to use it in anger. I found that it ‘clagged’ to the pressure foot and I needed to use a Teflon foot to get it to move. No idea what I would ever use it for unless I want to test my physical and mental limits. Just had a thought that it might be for using to stop straps slipping off your shoulders etc but it would have to be next to your skin? 🤔
@karensewsslowly8 ай бұрын
Hi 😂 I love that 'right little toad' - excellent! Can't risk it clagging to my new machine so probably just chuck it as you say, can't imagine what I would use it for and for the sake of what I paid for it and paid for my new sewing machine I'd rather not take that gamble. Take care and thanks for watching! 🥰xx

My heart still belongs to the Jumpsuit - although awkward to go to the loo in when you're trying to keep the suit off the floor I feel safer in the jumpsuit and I haven't yet sat down in the dress so I'm not sure what the 'flap open' ratio is on it! 😂🥰xx
