A very(!) late premiere - LaGG-3 Solo Sortie - Ace in a day - IL-2: Great Battles

Posting the LaGG-3 for the first time on the channel. There aren't a whole lot of reasons to fly the LaGG if other options like he yak or even the La-5 are available. But was flying it in those sorties here just for the giggles and 23mm justice.

Roll rate is the only pro I can find with it. 23mm too if you can get it (great for taking out twin engines). Oh and Sheriff, HDR has a different implementation now - you may want to try it out and see if it works better for you. @Lago Pires, I'm assuming Finnish VP server.

Haha, yes you can - the only thing that may get you is if your ping is over the limit. Try it out and see how you go. (I'm in Australia, I get hit by ping limits on some servers too)

I kinda wish they'd add the 1941 series LaGG. Underpowered to P-40 proportions, but there's a novelty about having 5 GUNS in the nose (2x 7.62's, 2x 12.7's, and a 20mm). I'm sure it'd make a fun bomber-killer (if you can manage to climb up to them).

Oh sure, fly the LaGG-3 but not the P40! I see how you are ;p In all seriousness... I kind of prefer the LaGG to the Yak despite the relatively poor performance. More stable platform, easier to aim, and better trim adjustments (Yak has just elevator, LaGG has all three)... and the motor-cannon is a nice bonus feature >:) Besides, if you get shot-down... it's a LaGG! Of course you got shot down! But, if you shoot the other guy down, what's his excuse? >:D

I want to like the Lagg-3... to have ANY reason to fly it at all.... but there doesnt seem to be except that some server allow ground attack loadouts on it.

i dont think its neccesary as this version we have is good for lagg, and it would be better to spend time on Yak-9T for example if 1943 is problem, that would be another ptsd inducing airplane

This late LaGG was faster than the Yak-1B at low altitude, so appart from historical accuracy (one of the main types in the Battle of Kuban), you could have a nice performance improvement over the previous LaGG-3. Don't know about the climbrate though, I guess it was better than the 1942 LaGG as there were some weight reductions, but don't know if it was similar to Yak's climbrate. Yak-9T is tempting as well, they also were produced until late war. It would be nice if they included the modifications to turn it into a Yak-9M (same fuselage, but 20mm cannon, automatic water radiator, and from October 1944 it had the 1300HP M-105PF-2, same engine used in the Yak-3).

lagg3 is an extremely slow aircraft with very bad performance. Unless you get appropriate cover from your friendly you are a easy target for enemies.

its not even that slow. its mostly just heavy with bad acceleration and climb rate

LaGG 3 isn't slow, compared to soviet planes like the I-15 or I-16. The LaGG 3 was, after the battle of moscow, used as a ground striker and speed for that role isn't as important. Yet the LaGG 3 isn't that slow for the time...
