Unleashed Gustav - Bf 109 G-14 Solo Sortie - IL-2: Great Battles

After flying the Sptifire MK IX the otherday I took the oppertunity to fly the G-14 again. Again on the Finnish Virtual Pilots server.
Again, its super unfair but fun.
Flying with the 20mm cannon. Combined with the 13mm more than enough to deal with pretty much everything the russians can field.

I’m really interested to see the BoB match ups. Historically, of course, by the time Operation Bodenplatte commenced, January 1, 1945, the number of experienced pilots on the German side was minimal, so you had young, relatively untrained pilots in advanced aircraft, versus relatively well trained and experienced pilots in advanced aircraft. It was a turkey shoot. What would have happened if people like Der Sheriff et al flooded the sky flying the Kurfürst and Dora? Maybe future TAW matchups will tell...

Nice video. I tend not to worry about the aircrafts specs, it's the pilot who makes the difference. For example, when you fly the G14 it's deadly, but if a less experienced pilot flew it then it could be potentially useless but that's just my opinion

sounds like you haven't been jumped by an energy fighter, there's nothing more frustrating! I've been looking up how to fly against it but I can't find anything, I pretty much just try to be unpredictable and wait for them to make a mistake.

Weightlifted there is a way, make sure that you have good situational awareness to avoid getting bounced, if you spot them before they're in gun range to can take steps to avoid it

well even a bad pilot is able to open the throttle and fly somewhat in a straight line. Thats why a aircrafts speed is the most important stat. I dont feel really bad about killing stuff with better planes, but how the sever is setup is imho not right. creating a hughe skill gap especcially at the end of the planeset. But I enjoy flying the new planes and its nice to see how much the aircraft performance prorgresed in the last couple of years of the war. 80kph improvements with comperativly minor things,

So, as I undestand, G14 is minor improvement over G6, meant as a standarization of few different modifications to the airframe over the course of G series, and G10 would be the final Gustav model with best performance? Or am I completely wrong? Can't find proper sources/information for this :/

you are completly wrong. G14 has superior engine and performs far better at high altitudes than G10.

G-14 is more than just that. The G-14 has water methanol injection. Giving so much more power, espeically on the deck. Climbrates are much much better, longer emergency power and much more. As far as I know we have not the high alt engine. The G-10 would have had the better high alt performance.

30mm in the nose right? It was amazing how hard it can hit enemies... just practicing a lot in quick missions where AI always spot you when coming from their 6, in MP if you do a sneak attack a couple of hits are more than enough to put them in pieces, sometimes i made them explode in mid air 🙃

That is a capsule of silica gel. To avoid that the windscreen fogs up.

I've tested the G14 and I find more manoeuvrable at high speeds than the other 109's. What do you guys think? Also I find it pretty weird that when u use an mk108 on the G6 it's lighter than the mg151, but when choose the mk108 on the g14 it becomes heavier. I can't find the logic in that.

The G-14 has a new tail section. And the Mk 108 should be lighter on both.

I thought only the rudder changed. I tried to do some research on the elevator but couldn't find anything. And when you look at the description of the 108 in the g14 its sais added mass, but in the g6 removed mass.

That should be just wrong in the description. The entire vertical stab changed. I can imagine this affects aerodynamics in a multitude of ways. Or could be just different modelling.

I finally found the answer to the question of why the g14 is more manoeuvrable at high speeds. So as we already knew the vertical stabilizer changed, on the horizontal stabilizer they added flettner tabs.

As always? the other Gs run at 2300 RPM continuously, at 2600RPM for 30 mins and 2800 RPM for 1 minute. The G-14 runs for 10mins at 2800 RPM.

Can't tell the speed because der Sheriff don't need no stinkin' instruments so we don't see that. But acceleration and climb seem yards better than what you were flying before.
