That’s perfect bro, I put together furniture exactly like that. I think people go a little crazy with joints. I saw a stress test, biscuit joints vs regular glue ups and they tested exactly the same. Keep it simple
@darkbielz4 жыл бұрын
I think the biscuit were used here just to guarantee the alignment of the boards, Titebond itself is strong enough to hold them together, but, one cannot risk board misalignment in such a big project. But you got me thinking, does the glue have some elasticity to it too to compensate seasonal wood movement in those big boards?

Love these tables, and they may be a perfect solution for my household. I plan to make a dining table. My wife loves the farmhouse table look, but I favor a more modern aesthetic. With any luck, and careful choice of wood, this design could leave us both happy! You earned new sub with this build, by the way!

Beaut build there Jordan, simple design but the execution certainly tested your set up. Always good when you can load it in the truck at your workshop and not have to worry about the on-site placement. Thanks, Bob.

Welcome back! Nice looking tables. I was concerned when I saw the glue and screws but I felt better when you connected them with tenons, lol. I'd still be cautious if someone were to scoot them without lifting.

Love the look of this table. Do you have any plans for this. Or would it be ill advised to take on a project like this without all that equipment. Might speak to a local craftsman with this idea. Great job
@intjonmiller6 жыл бұрын
I really miss having access to a huge sliding table saw and a timesaver wide belt sander like that. I dread taking on projects even 1/4 the size of either of these without those. I need to find someone in town who has them and might let me use them a couple times per year.

Hey Jord, great build. Why didn't you use your makita tracksaw to the cu square. Have makita sent you new tracks? I remember you had issues with the tracks being not straight.

@2:21 why wouldn't you just use a regular ol' skil/circular saw with a guardrail to cut the end of the table top? Instead of moving the table to the saw, bring the saw to the table.
@PeriodicFurnitureStudio6 жыл бұрын
jolier1313 the reason for doing what I did was because I had planned to also cut the tenons for the breadboard ends using the panel saw with a dado stack, (which I did) and if I couldn’t cut it like this I knew I’d have to rethink my breadboard approach
@jolier13136 жыл бұрын
Periodic Furniture Studio That makes sense to me. I don't want to come across as irreverent, but I would have used a plunge router and chisel to make and clean up the tenons. With such a big and heavy piece, it seems easier to me to move a 5kg circular saw and a 2kg router rather than a heave table top.

Looks like a tracksaw could of been handy. But no real experience with them. Are they accurate enough.
@samhenderson29476 жыл бұрын
Sam Sabastian i guess you work with what you have. They lookike a great small shop alternative to a panel saw. I guess there only downside is ripping narrower timbers.
@PeriodicFurnitureStudio6 жыл бұрын
Could have used the tracksaw, but the Makita one I have is not that great and I cant trust the track to represent the cut line as they aren't flat! Hoping to upgrade to the bosch or festool version soon

Thanks chaps that was good feedback. Tables are very nice.

Lmao. " a length that my shop is barely equipped to handle"! Dude your shop is huge! Massive jointer. Wide belt sander and a huge panel saw! If your shop is only barely equipped for this then i am freakin screwed!! I`m about to start a 10 ft table top with bread boards.
