I just thought of a little very helpful advice we learned at vocational school ( just in case you didn‘t know): For a harmonic „veneer-image“ (Furnierbild as we call it in Germany) put the veneer with its bright sapwood(edge) only nexto sapwood, and heartwood nexto heartwood...the crossings appear more natural through this arrangements. This means: [sapwood, heartwood] [heartwood, sapwood] [sapwood, heartwood] etc... I really appreciate your work and all your effort. In my opinion one of the best woodworking channels. Ps: it looks soo relaxing...but when you’re in the workshop things go complicated or stressful😅...especially when you glue something and everything has to be accurate Greetings form Germany

Question - Is there an advantage/disadvantage to cutting the veneer thicker, say ¼ inch? This video is very timely for me since I am making a Murphy bed and need to veneer a panel the size of a mattress. Thanks...and great build.

Hazem Bata I have the exact same question. Plus, why epoxy instead of wood glue or contact cement for glueing the veneer?

@@turcmic I imagine the epoxy was to give them more time to work. Glue sets in about 15 minutes. Epoxy sets in a few hours.

The thicker the veneer, the more chance for seasonal wood movement, similar to if you just made a solid wood table top. So doing a pattern like I did for this table, might not work out over time. And yes, epoxy gives more open time, and it isn't water-based like wood glue, so it doesn't cause the veneer to warp from moisture when you are trying to apply it to the substrate.
