this is a rare seth thomas quarter striking bracket clock, often times when we mention quarter striking clocks you always think of melody chimes, such as winchester, westminster, whittington, st michaels, trinity, Ave maria de fatima and others which play part of a well known melody on the quarters, this clock, however is diffferent! clock chimes take on many forms, you have the traditional dong type chime, which will chime once on the half hour and the number of hours, we have the cuckoo clocks which combine the dong with a cuckoo sound, essentially being the same as the standard clocks, but ading a cuckoo call as well as the usual half hour strike patterns, then, we have what is either known as a bim bam or ting tang strike depending on where in the world you are from, bim bam is the british way of describing them, ting tang is the US version of the same thing. these clocks usually strike once on the half hour, giving a bim bam, almost door bell like sound for the half hour, and the same again at the top of the hour giving the number of hours at the time, well, how about this, lets take a standard clock, as spoken about before, which dongs once on the half and the number of hours, but, modify it in such a way that it does not strike the ding on the half hour, but then incorporate the bim bam chimes on the quarters and use bells to do this. What we end up with is a clock like is seen here! a tall tower bracket clock with 3 train movement, one train does the bim bam on bells, once for the quarter past, twice for the half hour, 3 times on the quarter to, and 4 times for the full hour! this isn't all though! after the 4 bim bam tones of the full hour, the clock then goes in to hour strike on a coil, to indicate the number of hours passed! a combination of bells and coil make this a rare treat! This clock was described to me as a ships bell clock, but it really isn't a ships bell in the true sense, but something far more unique and special! I have done many hours of searching on youtube to find a clock that is like this one and I have not found anything what so ever! this clock when I first saw it was extremely in need of repair, but Sam had it done up recently and I am proud of the fact that she let me visit her house and video this fine piece of craftsmanship in operation!
