For your information: 1class in Switzerland is not really about the comfort you get. Many people use trains to work on theyr way to the office. In 1 Class its more silent, bigger Tables sometimes even a big conference table. (Can be seen at IC2000 cars after revision in the Car behind the loco in the upper deck)

@@NonstopEurotrip No way haha. The higher cost of ticket just barely makes up for the extra space these big seats use up. there's no way that drinks / snacks are included, because no-one would use them. would be a huge waste of money, that the tax payer would need to pay. they better keep investing in keeping the infrastructure as good as it is now, and not making it worse and reducing infrastructure constantly ( because that's the course they set at the moment...)

One thing you missed was an example of the swissconnect system (4:23). I've paid that for first class travel of a similar duration in the UK. Swiss residents usually buy annual passes that give them access to most public transport, or half-fare passes. When I last looked a Swiss resident annual pass was around SF5,000 (about £3,000) for all access travel. Compare that with the UK where an annual Brighton-London season ticket is over £4,000 and can only be used on that route (and wages/salaries in Switzerland are substantially higher than the UK). Always best for tourists to buy passes though.

What I appreciate most here in Switzerland (especially since I lived 18Months in Norway) is the Fact that you buy one Ticket from the Start to the Destination of your Journey, regardless of from where to where and regardless of how many times you have to change Means of Transports/Transportation Companies along the Route. In Norway I could only Buy the Ticket to where the Company goes and then had to Buy a Ticket by the Company that drives the next Part of the Journey and so on. Routes that are served by multiple Companies mean that you have to have the Ticket from the Company serving your tour... That was one of the very few Things I was disappointed in, since Norway is one of the most modern Countries: it's lack of a centralized Ticket System, which was very frustrating for me as a swiss Guy: Me: "I have a two-way-Ticket" Driver: "Yes, that's from Kolumbus, they drive again tomorrow. We are Norway Bussekspress that's not valid here...." Me: "It's the exact same Route!" Driver: "But we are another Company" Me: "...........WTF?.........."

Sure gorgeous ride and super scenery. Memories of a "Treyn Holidays" visit some 9 years ago, going through to Italy. Great Vlog. Loving them.
Never call an ICN a Pendolino, that's rude and offensive😂😂😂! In fact, in Switzerland the word 'Pendolino' is still linked with the dreadful Cisalpino service and their notoriously unreliable ETR470 EMU's, that was discontinued more than a decade ago for god's sake. Despite the time gone since, the term Pendolino is still sort of a swear word, while the ICN is regarded as the climax of swiss railway engineering😉 Nice thumbnail for the video though, as in the background (left low corner) you can notice my hometown. Or a part of it at least. That picture has been shot on the jura foot line between the towns of Olten and Solothurn.

@@NonstopEurotrip the real Pendolinos in Switzerland are the class ETR 610 of Italian railways and class RABe 503 "Astoro" of SBB, they are used on Italy - Switzerland (- Frankfurt) routes and between Zürich and München. The ICN has Pendolino bogies from Fiat/Alstom, but this is the only thing they have in common. It was built by AdTranz/Bombardier. You had to walk over from the street down the length of the train (more like a tram at this point), some more, then cross the street and everything. With luggage it is a royal pain in the rear. This wasn't an issue at Visp but our train going to Milan didn't stop at Visp...

Ill try to explain you in an easy way, why they look similar: There are two types of coaches, that look very similar and that are used very similar. The 1st Class coach he was sitting in, is a Type EW IV (stands for EinheitsWagen 4), they were built in the 80's and are still in use today in InterRegios and InterCitys. They exist as 1st and 2nd class coaches. The other Type is the one he goes into at 11:19. That is a BPM 61 from the early 90's. They also exist as 1st Class coaches with the name APM 61. These have a permission to operate in Germany, which the EW IV's dont have. So the APM / BPM 61's are used in EuroCitys, but also in InterRegios and InterCitys. A normal passenger will have a hard time to see the difference between an APM 61 and a EW IV 1st class coach and thats exactly what im seeing here ;) greetings from switzerland.

I absolutely hate the Twindexx, not only for the unexpected shaking but also for its absolutely horrendous staircase and overall discomfort. It really feels like an airplane where in the EW IV where you were in it's much more roomy. And the old IC2000 shows how a bilevel long distance train can be very comfortable. Even the Stadler Kiss trains that were made for commuting local services aren't remotely as bad as this Bombardier. At least once seated it's ok. I also don't like the Giruno for it's constant up and down and diagonal pathing inside the train. It's all jam packed these days where people get on with many things, trains should be as roomy as the EW IV we see here!

I don't think that arrangement of local trains (white) and long-distance trains (red) is by accident. I believe that in some Swiss rail hubs (1) local trains are all scheduled to terminate just before (2) a number of long-distance trains call in at a key point on the clockface and then finally (3) local trains begin their journey to their local destinations.

I think "extortionate" is the wrong description of the fares. Is it so different from a 1st class single out of Euston for a comparable distance? Swiss people take advantage of the half-price passes and the "GA", an annual season ticket, to get better fares as regular travellers. Also, pricing is consistent for the distance travelled, any day, any time. Some viewers might have been surprised to see passengers with their feet on the seat opposite. This is acceptable only if you take off your shoes first!
