Quick note: I don't know why the chapters aren't displaying properly on this video. They were working fine when it was private, but vanished on setting it to public. The same problem afflicts my video on Slumdog Millionaire. May just be KZbin's ravenous A/B testing running amok, but at any rate I apologize for the inconvenience.

don't worry, good video of a great movie.

Let the Right One In is a great movie. Such a crime that Let Me In exists... doing a crappy "remake" of a great movie just a couple years later is such bollocks.

Maybe because I'm a Swede and can intimately relate to all the locations looking like places I grew up in and it's in my native language, this is one of my absolute favorite movies I've ever seen despite not usually being a fan of Swedish film.

I loved this film...sad to think about what awaits the boy later in his life: the same fate as the first familiar; killed when he could no longer fulfil his duties...also how many familiars the vampire has gone through

Nope, in a follow up book they are seen years later, still together as vampires

oh did the boy become a vampire in the first video? i always thought the ending was so great cause it seems happy, until a while after when your thinking about it and suddenly i realized i was wrong: it wasn't happy it was just the beginning of this boys terrible life as a familiar.@@minna1997-

I need to rewatch this now… I bounced off of it the first time because I found it lacking as an adaptation. Let the Right One In happens to be my favorite novel. The film omits the two or three most horrifying sequences, shows only the final moments of its most engaging subplots, and generally lacks the rich, melancholy characterization that made the book so emotionally resonant. For me, this meant that the major beats in the adaptation felt unearned. Maybe I’ll enjoy it more now that I’ve had some distance from the book, but my bias runs deep. Thank you for the exploration of this film and for renewing my interest.

It's less than two hours long. No film of such a low duration is going to be able to capture all of the events of a novel that's hundreds of pages in length. But at least this is one of those rare instances where the original author is behind both the novel and the film's screenplay---so tone, key characters, and key themes are retained where possible (the same can not be said of the Hammer movie Let Me In, nor the Showtime television series). At any rate, I'm one of those stuffy literary formalists who feels it's impossible to paraphrase or even translate a piece of poetry without completely destroying it. Other forms may be more flexible than poetry, but in general a work in one compositional style is necessarily in that compositional style, and an adaptation of it into another medium is a new work with resemblances. So, I don't think a film is ever going to truly succeed if judged as a novel; we can only hope a film may succeed if considered in its distinctness as a film.

I think my only regret with the film is they didnt end up filming Eli's emasculation scene - it would have cleared up a lot for the audience.

Ha, well, I don't think an article or video on that subject from me is likely. But if you just want my thoughts: it's probably ever-so-slightly undeserving of its terrible reputation, as it's basically a competent or average thriller. But with that being said . . . yeah, it's neither great nor good. It has an array of strange issues. Some just off the top of my head are the decision to keep the setting in Norway but give all of the characters English accents and dialogue; editing and casting that makes the three depicted time periods needlessly difficult to tell apart; goofy visuals for the actual snowmen and drawings of snowmen; and retention of the protagonist's distracting name 'Harry Hole' despite shifting the language to English. So, although it's mostly well-acted and well-shot, the many clumsy details like those are, I'm sure, why folks generally lambast it.

I've never seen the film but I read it in the original when I was learning Swedish and it made an impression. This inspired me to seek the film somewhere. By the way, Håkan is stressed on the first syllable, "HAWK-uhn".

A name of the movie actually refers to Morrissey' song
@TheGemsbok Жыл бұрын
Yes, Lindqvist originally titled the novel after the lyrics of the Morrissey song Let the Right One Slip In---but he selected that line in particular because of its relationship with the notion of vampires needing to be invited into a property to enter: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fp68apuDrtKkoa8
