Finnegan was not impressed with his visit to the vet at all! For the next two days there was a lot of squeaking and biting until finally he forgave me.....He was a very, VERY angry little mouse.

You can, to keep him company, provide a female african soft fur for him! They cannot breed together, but they make for absolutely wonderful companions for unnuetered boys. Very clean, and I’m sure you can find someone who breeds well tempered ladies for little Finn :)

Do you have access to a breeder of African soft furred mice or someone who wants to rehome a female African soft furred mouse. People breed them to feed to snakes. Do you know any snake owners who breed them? I love hearing your tiny little furry friend squeak. He's very cute and he sounds like a bird.

Poor little guy! I can’t think of a better person for him to be with than you, though. I’m sure he’ll live such a happy life with you. Also those head scritches at 8:30 could melt the coldest heart 🥺🥺🥺 I hope you don’t mind the question, but I was wondering if you’ve ever had experience using a nebulizer for mice sick with a respiratory infection. One of my girls Winkle has tried 3 different antibiotics with no success treating her sniffles and she has started to decline slightly. Our vet mentioned a nebulizer and I’m starting to think it’s our only option but I’ve never had anyone to tell me about their personal experience with them and if it’s helped their mice. If you haven’t tried one, are there any medications that I can ask my vet about that have worked for you and your mice? Thank you so much!
@mitsukitai2713
@mitsukitai2713 2 жыл бұрын
While I have both mice and rats, I've only started nebulizing some of my rats as the mice currently don't have any respiratory issues. I've heard it's a bit more effective than oral medication. And I've seen improvement in my ratties. I'd definitely highly recommend getting one! The only downsides: (the benefits still outweigh these) You have to diy the chamber they're nebulized. The most common I've seen is a plastic tub with a lid, (not too large or small) with holes drilled in a line towards the top along the entirety and one large one for aytaching the end of the tubing from the nebulizer. Then you use something to secure the tubing to that larger hole, like duct tape. You wanna make sure it's a tight seal so none of the vapor leaks. That said, I use a cage that's covered with a blanket. (The nebulizer will also force oxygen in so they won't suffocate). It helps to do it like a hospital tank; either a cloth bottom or a thin layer of bedding, some distractions like treats, a buddy, a toy or two and of course a water source. Another is that the machine can be quite loud. I cover it up without blocking the side vent (don't want it to overheat) like pillow and put it as far away as I can. I had to lengthen the tubing, (the masks they come with are useless as they're much to big and most rodents won't keep still long enough for them to work) so I attached extra to the end of the tubing the machine came with. Luckily since my gran is currently on oxygen, she let me have a a packet of tubing (she gets a whole box of them so losing 1 pack wouldn't matter). I'd think aquarium tubing would do just the same job, it's just securing it to the end nebulizer without getting leaks is tricky but possible. Your vet should give you the saline solution to use in the medicine chamber but I'm sure you can buy some over the counter if you run out. (For a mouse the stuff they give you should last a while) Hope this helps!
@itmethetea4265

I’ve nebulized several rodents before and it works wonderfully, especially for older rodents! Helped one of my rat ladies survive really bad pneumonia as well. I tend to give them breaks throughout each time I do it because I worry about fluid buildup. Winkle is a good size too so she should do great with it!

Poor guy had a rough time of it. ): It's always heartbreaking when you try to do what's best for an animal friend, and it goes wrong. I hope you don't feel guilty about it; you couldn't have known there would be complications, and the risks are worth it for the chance to live in a group until his life ends. Is spaying female mice very difficult / impossible? Just thinking that maybe one of the females could join him if she couldn't reproduce. Oh! Maybe that rodent contraception mix you got before might work here too! I got the same brand as you did, but we use it for any wild mice that start a home in our house.
@cheritripp9470
@cheritripp9470 2 жыл бұрын
Been using that powder for my own furry uninvited guests. I assume it's working or I would be ankle deep in mice by now considering how fast they reproduced. Usually I catch them in the Tin Cats and relocate them in a park 20 minutes away by bus. But I caught Covid in February and one of the after effects is weak legs. I'll probably get PT at the clinic to get the strength back. In the meantime my guests are getting feeding stations and reprieve until I can walk up that hill in the woods again. It's more for their benefit than mines since they're not that much of a bother (except for weekly poo clean up). Yet they had gotten rather territorial and chasing each other (and squeaking) despite the apparently large sizes of the kitchen and living room. The park will give them more room (despite the risks of predators) and I'll get back to relocating when my legs recover.

I tried that contraceptive and found that it does not work, at least not for my mice :( I have Archie in with an infertile female, the pet store recommended her to me for this exact purpose. Feline is wonderful and gets along with Archie great, plus no babies :) Wish I could have a few more like her. I have heard of people spaying mice but my vet does not want to try, she feels it would be too risky and too stressful for her, she cares too much for her patients.

@@CreekValleyCritters Well, I'm assuming it's working, since I'm not ankle deep in mice. (The invasion happened 2 years ago) I hadn't seen 'toddler' mice in 3 months, just 'kids' and 'teens'. @CreekValleyCritters
@CreekValleyCritters 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, lots of times but almost always just from un-neutered males. Females and neutered males rarely ever bite and then only when they are really, really scared, if even then. It seems though that most un-neutered males will go through a phase where they challenge you, I am going through this right now with little Tom. I have found a way to train them out of it with the use of both positive and negative re-enforcement. After a few days of a lot of 'don't bite's and Band-Aids, Tom has become a reformed character. Mice are smart enough to control their instinctive behaviors, at least when it comes to territorial biting :)

You can have a hormone implant put into him and that achieves the same things as neutering. It's called Suprelorin. Ask your vet to look into obtaining some. Your mouse will probably be much happier. It depends. If he seems happy and you are able to give him a ton of attention, he will be fine left the way he is. If he is one of those male mice who smell very, VERY strong and your family is complaining, then get him neutered, it will solve the problem. If you want to get more mice so he can live in a family, find an experienced exotic animal vet and have him neutered. There are risks, but if you have a good vet, they are low and well worth it for his increase in quality of life as a neutered male.

Hey I’m just wondering, if he didn’t get “them” (I’m still uncomfortable with s3xual organ words) cut off, what’s causing his pain? I don’t know anything about neutering in any animals..

On the operating table they cut him open but could not find his testicles. They did a lot of prodding and poking until they gave up and closed his wound. All this created a lot of pain once the painkillers wore off. It was hard on him.

Hello my females mice are fighting, is this behavior normal??🤨🤨
@CreekValleyCritters
@CreekValleyCritters 2 жыл бұрын
With some mice yes. They are usually just establishing pecking order but if there is blood or one is being bullied too badly, it is best to separate and try intros a week or two later again. Some hate each other so much, they can never live together safely, but this is rare with females.

I did but it seems they don't do it anymore, too risky plus it has to be injected directly into the testicles and if you cannot find them, you are in the same difficulty if you were trying to neuter surgically.

Did they cut him and not find his testicles? Or did they just not find them at all, so they didn't cut him? Why do you have to keep him alone? Obviously breeding, but fighting?

No more hormones. So he probably doesn't feel well, and probably the pain meds from the surgery wore off.
