I love this too! You watch national broadcasters [TSN, Sportsnet] and major Jets news like this week's Scheiff and Hellebuck signings don't even get a video announcement- just a basic write-up. If that occurred in TO though, it'd be endlessly discussed and it'd be headline news! Thanks for featuring the smaller markets! Homegrown/ DIY news is awesome!!

Winnipeg should advertise tour packages in the surrounding areas. In terms of geography, it has the largest market in the NHL. Places like Brandon, Kenora, Thunder Bay, Grand Forks and even into Saskatchewan has a lot of fans who simply can't easily attend games without having to plan lodging and travel. Work a deal out with nearby hotels and bus operators, and you'll not only solve the empty seat problem, you could make a little extra on the side with these tours too. There's well over an additional million people in Winnipeg's market that can only watch the games on TV.

I'm not convinced a rebuild would kill attendance, especially compared to that 21 game absolute slump last season. I would rather watch prospects and new guys cutting their teeth putting their entire being into the game as opposed to whatever happened there last year. Those first few years were pretty rough too, they were middling at best -- Atlanta was not a good team... Sure the city was high on having hockey back but the guys that were there were all work horses, and played their hearts out. They lost but the other team paid for their wins with sweat, sometimes blood and plenty of bruises. The slump mid-season last year was not that. That was something else. It was a complete disconnect and lack of effort. And it was a continuation of the season before when they missed the playoffs. I love all these guys and I am over the moon for Helly and Scheif's commitment & I am hoping that gesture and Lowry's leadership can steady the ship in those situations this time around because... They gave up on those games. They stopped skating. They did not have the will to win. Every jets fan could see it. Vilard, Iafallo, and Kupari all seem like pretty eager competitors too, and I think Vilardi could be a sleeper in the league -- for real. He could wake up at any point with those top line minutes and Scheifele and Conner on the ice.

16:52 As a Winnipegger living in Quebec, I really do think that a team in Quebec City would work. Winnipeg and Quebec City have almost identical populations in terms of their respective metro areas, however Quebec City is part of the corridor running down to Toronto where most of Canada's density resides so they have a bigger population basin to draw from overall. Also, Quebec has a massive provincial government and most of the people earning those nice civil servant salaries live in Quebec City (paid for by Montreal taxes 😅), whereas Winnipeg is more of a blue collar city. Not to mention Quebec City has a newer, larger arena. It just makes sense that if it works in Winnipeg it would work in Quebec City. But try explaining that to Gary Bettman 🙄

@@geoff3103 no capitalist actually wants competition, however Geoff Molson wouldn't dare try to block a team in Quebec City - it's a popular idea with public and political support that goes all the way up to the Premier himself. There would be a huge backlash if the Canadiens somehow prevented it from happening.

Yeah sorry about comment last time day after was said they have modified no trade after 3-4years no trades. And it came out Hawerchuk told him he wished he stayed his whole career in wpg since the connection in Barrie. Scheifele also said things haven't always been great but his idol was Yzerman and liked the idea of being with 1 team whole career since most players don't do that these days. And Hellebuyck had comments on Winnipeg Sports Talk/Illegal curve hockey. The same cap came about not one of other trying to ask 10 or something and lessen chances of winning. Roslovic and Copp left but was cause wanted go Detroit/Columbus hometowns. Byfuglien just quit now is huge and fishes. Yes some bad apples don't want to be here most people thought Scheifele was one of them not hellebuyck. But 1st line Centers and vezina goalies hard to come by. A guy who has come out wanted to stay Neidereitter wants contract done,Namestnikov resigned, those 2 local channels mentioned were saying Dillon/demelo/Neidereitter will see these signings and at least 2 resign now team has direction. Illegal curve and WinnipegSportsTalk used to be combined and on local radio tsn1290 after tsn laid people off started own channels. After games fans would phone in Trever kidd,Mike Keane, and others affiliated with jets talk to fans. Some had few to many. Chipman also brought in Jimmy Roy/WadeFlaherty ex Moose when AHL affiliate for Canucks Schneider liked playing for old Moose and city. The sad news LucBourdon/Rypien still keeps memories alive. He's like Dubas likes his guys. Other players im pretty sure around Hodgson/Burrows/Bieksa/Shirokov others i remember comming to schools i love to read week.Treats players like family definitely not cutthroat like Vegas. San Jose players commented didnt like it here. Sadly taxes, murder capital/homelessness/weather/long hospital wait times. Most fans love the team don't want it leave again. The Winnipeg Ice left we had to many teams with junior ranks and they didn't have suitable rink built. People supported wheat kings and Ice players for years. Definitely good hockey Market,Perreault similar Dubois from Quebec liked that Winnipeg has 2nd highest fench community outside Quebec and Metis. Thomas Steen raised Alex between here and Sweden he ran for political office in Elmwood and won. Got ex players raise money build hockey rink in poor area. Same with Toews has rink named after him,TerrySawchuk. When players bring cup back like Kolesar,Howden,Penner,Fehr,Helm in past exapecially small towns all come out. I was born 94/95 most of life had no team I watched flames/Iginla back then channels on TV would show local teams and HNIC wouldn't get to see like now KZbin or other teams so was hard to be a fan of them. The green jersey Moose teams watched in childhood, would be involved community minor hockey teams would wear jerseys bring whole team,police/fireman/military/fun one of kind jerseys. Ex players Slater,Thorburn,Stuart,Glass,Little liked it Thorburn might live here he was at last jets fans appreciation. Burmistrov texted Kniazev after trade saying if he needs to know anything about city he knows the go to places. Namestnikov and Zhilkin/Kniazev has been helping Chibrikov,Kuzmin make transition easier since already spoke english. Culture shock Most regular class people here would leave if could better cities. But get that attitude stick together only we can make fun of it call it cold ect. Unlike toronto you see same people at games not companies buying everything. Not just hockey we have Bombers/Milt Steagal,New soccer team,Ice Bears basketball,Goldeyes baseball this year prospect came early to winnipeg in summer by team and showed them city when nice outside beaches ect. We are really cloae lake of the woods and kenora home of MikeRichards.

Winnipegers can afford to fill our building that's not the issue. Ticket price is not the issue. The amount of money people were spending as we came out of Covid on cabins, boats, vacations, etc, etc, was crazy. The club has even discounted tickets. It's a mindset in Winnipeg. As soon as tickets become available everyone is able to put it off or keep that money in their jeans. When it was full everyone wanted what they couldn't get. Honestly, I think the Jets lack identity. Those old jerseys and old logo are iconic. Now, they just look boring and completely generic. The Columbus Blue Jackets of Canada, although potentially an even duller look if that's even possible. And it extends to the roster, too: a lot of good players. No interesting ones. Apart from Hellebuyck, who is their most exciting player? Kyle Connor? I'm sure all that talk about the locker room issues didn't help endear them to the fanbase, either. But at least Wheeler is gone, so that's a plus. But still, they need to rebrand ASAP and fine at least one player who someone would actually want to watch. Scheifele is not that guy. He's a Matt Duchene or a Paul Stastny.

Sad to see Wpg Jet's forced to over pay for players again at 8 .5 million a year for 7 years ? . In their opinion Heli and Shef had them they could not be traded for upgrades and there is no interest for star players to come and play in Wpg . If this deal did not happen they would have left after this season like Wheeler did got nothing for him . Tough situation in Wpg over paying again . Why can Vegas attract players so easily and keep them long term ? Must be the cold climate winter and July . We remain .

Yes many no trade destinations in the Nhl for certain cities for top players . They will have to settle for good draft picks again .

No taxes in Vegas or Florida. Its one reason why those teams have an advantage

Tbh as a jets fan I would have hoped that this team would have undergone a rebuild. This team hasn’t been a cup contender since 18-19 and it’s been going downhill since. I understand why they didn’t since they are a smaller market but they’ve been mediocre since their run in ‘18. They built that team through the draft and need to get back to that, especially when you have Locker room/culture issues. Maurice stepping down mid-season was pretty unprecedented and Bowness’s comments after the playoffs spoke volumes. “Nobody wants to play in Canada” is such a lazy argument when you have guys like Hughes and Matthews signing extensions when they could have walked.
