So sorry to hear about what you experienced. My wife and I are retired high school teachers. I can understand your feelings of boundaries that have been overstepped. We would have had a similar reaction to a former student showing up on our doorstep. What has shocked me most about your experience was your visitor was in his 70s! One likes to think that with age comes wisdom and discretion? You two are so likeable that some people forget themselves.
@Modeltshinn2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much Frank 💕 Yes, you could have a lot of former students at your door step, hopefully not! I agree with you, age usually does come with wisdom. I’ve wondered if it’s a generation thing? At the time someone was raised if they are in their 70’s now, we’re things different? Could they just go to peoples homes and it was no big deal? I’m thankful that he didn’t mean anything bad by his presence, he just had expectations and dreams that can’t be fulfilled.

Thank you for your posting Tina...a measured, candid, and humble reach out to your online community to define and convey appropriate boundaries. From your description it sounded like the person who came to your house unannounced may have had innocent intentions although he was inappropriate in how he reached out. I'm with you on how easy it must be for folks to "discover" where one is via internet searches...being in the IT industry I'm aware of some of those methods and can see how someone being unscrupulous would go over the line. Hopefully this incident will be a one-off and both you and Paul will be able to get back to being your happy-go-lucky selves....it is your openness and fun presentation style that has gathered so many viewers and continues to increase interest in your videos...We all look forward to seem much more from you in the future!

Hi Tina. So sorry to hear of this incident. Here in Australia it is a pretty low risk environment but having classic and vintage cars always brings with it the risk of an incident. Fortunately I have not had anything like this happen (I don’t have a KZbin channel) but in the last couple of years I have started taking basic precautions. One of those is that I never drive my cars directly to my house. I always drive around the block by a different route each time, so that I can take a look at anybody who is tailing me. Unfortunately these are the times in which we live. Having said that, keep doing what you guys do and remember that 99.999% of people are respectful and appreciative of Paul and yourself.

Unfortunately social media platforms , in general, has made some feel a closer connection to others than the media poster intends. Mush the same as TV or film stars. I appreciate your posts and openness, it sure helps on relatability and connection….I would not go as far as this person did and show up expecting a instant friendship that has only been one sided for however long a person has known about your social media presence. I encourage you to continue being yourself and enjoying your life as you have designed it for your own pleasure and benefit, but I also encourage you to invest some time and effort into some security measures, gates, or whatever you are comfortable with to make a hard line on what your social availability boundary’s are.

Tina, I wanted to add that townspeople can unknowingly work against us in this type of situation. If someone is trying to find your home and they know what town you live in, people from town will tell them for the asking. And particularly so if they were being asked by a senior citizen. I'd expect just about any townsperson would think that they're being helpful. I can't think of any way to advert this from happening, short of renting a billboard, but I felt my mention was noteworthy. God bless.

Gosh, ya not okay at all. If you wanted to sell them in your front yard, you’d have for sale signs on them and telling them the best way to contact you. I’ve never liked door to door sales people either, I’ll go to the company if I want the product and I definitely don’t want to buy something just so they’ll leave due to pressure sales.

That's unfortunate. I also watch several farm channels, and a couple of them have had the same problem of unannounced visitors. Among the concerns is the possibility that an unannounced visitor might have an accident given the amount of machinery on the property, some of which y'all have too. For self-preservation, strangers should not show up unannounced.

Thank you David 💗 It’s terrible that other KZbin people have had the same issue, it’s something that shouldn’t have to be said, anyone should know that it would feel creepy. It’s different if we are out in public, especially at an event or something, then we know people would say hi and even maybe some hugs , which I love.

There are websites , free of charge, that will tell people your address, every address you have ever had, how many people live in your household, etc. please be careful. Dear Tina & Paul, You both are a god gift in a couple that does share a tremendous time, dedication, love in this fantastic hobby that for each Model A lover lives for me and the model A community. Me Myron E. Jacobs, that lives on an island Curacao in the Caribbean next to the very known island of Aruba, part of the Dutch country of Europe the Netherlands, are very cautious with to much publicity, with our hobby The Ford model A. Reason, people of this world are not the people anymore as the generations before us. Jealousy, is the principal reason, for approaches experienced yesterday, but at all I am not generally pointing out that every body is, but heading to anybody on family home like that is and was wrong! You message Tina was clear and more than understanding, and your and Paul concern is more than understandable, and your explanation and decent message was clear!!!!!!!!! My example given above, of where I am is simply to give an indication that we on a very small island don’t accept approaches, or non announced visits like you experienced. Now, that person won’t like your reaction or request as you did on the you tube channel, that his or her problem, but Tina you did a very good job of explaining, sharing and pointed out your and Paul’s felling! We are u fortunately difficult world and one simply has to respect and think before to decide to be heading to one private, living area that is HOME!!!!! May god bless both of you, protect both of you, and give you Paul, and father the strength, time and many more years to be OUR model A by heart family. My wife and I loves both of you and may be very soon will meet you on a get together Model A show as I am member of MAFCA, or you both are more than welcome on our lovely island of Curaçao, take this as a personal invitation. But let me known in advance your arrival hahahaha lol. Please let this be a Gods signal to take measurements, as your message was already one of them that people need to understand that was not correct to show up at your home! God bless and a good rest of this week! Myron & Angelica Jacobs

Respect. A word almost obliterated in our society. Your home your is your castle. Your domain is where you live is private. People need to respect your space. It's unfortunate someone as old as this gentleman who should know better has shown up unannounced or introduced. I agree you need your private space. Impromptu visits are NOT acceptable. I do understand there are people of a given age who are NOT tech savvy BUT that still is not a free pass to avoid protocol and rather become acquainted by email or whatever you guys allow as a window of opportunity for us and you to become better acquainted. Maybe this gentleman needed a friend and was lonely. Or lost a love one lately and found Paul and yourself to be nice, sweet kind people. All admirable reasons. BUT just like in any situation, work, relationships, interaction with others we must recognize and honor boundaries and respect people. Respect just like I started this comment. As innocent as this interview may have appeared to present in this man's mind or perception, this guy could have come with nefarious motives as well as pure ones. Age does not necessary negate larceny! I hope people will respect your space, make acquaintance via the portals you offer and respect you. I think you are totally right here and support you 100% regardless to our pop in visitor's reasons or motives. God bless your endeavors and good health and safety to you both.

Hey Tina, as a former security officer, I understand what you are saying. And if security is now a concern for you two, it might not hurt to put up some security camera’s that notify you when someone is on your land. As there have been some issues with other KZbinrs having fans, just showing up on their property. The guy over at VGG, and the owners of Stoney Ridge Farms have had those issues. And Josh over at Stoney Ridge Farms did put up security camera’s. As for locating people, it’s not that hard but also not that easy and is something I have been trying to help a friend do, with locating her brother who she lost contact with. But it is usually not a good idea to send emails, through a email app that’s installed on your computer. It’s like if you use gmail, it’s better to send it directly from the gmail website that way they cannot use the IP address to locate you.

Model T, I am so sorry you had to experience this intrusion into your personal lives. I find it shocking how much humanity and common sense people have lost in the years since the internet and smart phones become common place items. The internet and smart phones can open a person up to a ton of information and knowledge, but it seems that people are getting dumber and less aware of what it means to be fully human. Interpersonal skills have weakened, the meaning of friendship has changed to the point that total strangers on social media are now called friends and real life friends are often forgotten or taken for granted. I am subscribed to tons of KZbin channels, have watched way too many hours of other people doing things I wish I could be doing (restoring and driving a Model A being one of them), but I have never thought about trying to find out where any of those people live, work, and intruding into their lives...but then again, I don't use "social" media and don't live with my smart phone glued to my face...in fact, I'm not exactly sure which room of my house the phone is in.

This is very VERY disturbing! It is NOT ok to EVER do this, it is NOT ok to EVER violate someone’s privacy and just show up to their home….NOT EVER! THIS sort of thing is what makes folks stop doing KZbin or FB or IG! People like this have to understand that if they want to continue to enjoy the content that others share then doing this sort of thing will drive them away and that means not more great content. Did I mention that it’s never ok to violate someone’s privacy? Hopefully this was a one time ordeal and the gentleman just didn’t realize that it wasn’t ok, if he wanted a apprenticeship then just ask and see if you guys are willing! I have found that while 78% of statistics are made up on the spot, that 99% of the time communication or lack of it is the problem or can become one!! Sadly, once a person makes themselves public in some way, like a KZbin channel, there are those that assume everything about them is public. That they, the public, has some sort of right to step into their lives at will. The other side to it is cars specifically. So often cars of any kind are seen as valuable and that only wealthy people have collections and restorations. Put those two aspects together, and it leads some to get the idea that you and Paul and wealthy and have infinite time to just play and can step into your lives whenever they feel like it. Adding the friendly and open nature of your personalities, and it just draws them in. You two have done well to keep yourselves safe on your videos, it was a case of someone getting their own idea of what is acceptable. I've had my home and vehicles broken into before, so I totally get the violation of safety that having others seeking you can incur. It is the worst part of it all, what they take away. Hope things even back out for you two after a while and you find your peace again. A fellow rural dweller here as well, I know the feeling.

Saying you are in the area and asking to stop by is one thing, but to just show up to someone's house who you stalked through YT is a bit disgusting. I am sorry this happened to you. I feel a lot of car channels are a bit prone to this sort of thing as you tend to go on drives from your house which often gives away street signs leading to being able to narrow down locations. I feel this sort of thing is a bit of a fault of the social media era where the idea of "friends" blends historical boundaries. Stay safe you two!

Hi Tina, I’ve been in the old car hobby for my entire life. I am a technical advisor, club officer, founded to car clubs and too many accomplishments to list. I lived in a big, eastern city. Living there I developed a fear of discovery. I would never pull into my driveway if someone was near. I kept the doors on my garage closed so I wouldn’t be spied on. Then I, like you guys, moved to a country setting. I’m still cautious but not as panicked. I have never had anyone pull up my driveway uninvited. Which is good as I too would feel imposed upon. With all that said, my mother taught me you never show up to someone’s house unannounced. It’s just rude. So, I too would be upset that it happened. I know no one is taught manners anymore. But from watching you guys, I know you are both gentile people. So, sorry this happened you. But if you’re ever on our neighborhood, call and stop by.
