Its actually scary how close to reality the psychology behind this particular switch in ideology from carnage is. They depict him as a kid in heaven and his vocabulary is small and lacking in almost every area and his idea of good and bad are poorly warped. This is the best showcase of a character growing from the literal worst of conditions. He even gets betrayed by the person he trusted to teach him a better good than the one he uses by his own self made definition and changes it based on Alices Input. He valued her opinion! Thats a huge thing to do when you're a mass murdering superpowered man child whose idea of good is only having what he wants! He learned to change what he wants so he doesnt have to "feel bad" aka not needing violence and seeking happiness.

The tone of this story to me fits Carnage perfectly. It's deranged and humours in a dark way but also morbid and somewhat sad. Even if its because of a force compelling him to do so and he is absolutely awful at doing it, it is kind of nice seeing Carnage try to be a hero and help people with his powers. Unlike Venom however Cletus is just so messed up he can't even understand how to properly do good, even if he is compelled to do so. It's tragic how he latches onto and tries to learn how to be decent from a woman who is essentially a sociopath with just as little regard for others well being as Cletus used to have. Maybe with the proper instruction he actually could've rehabilited himself in some way. I see this as a twisted darkly comedic tragedy ultimately, especially considering the next story he appeared in after this in the AXIS event he died saving Spider-Man.
