@tomtalker200018 күн бұрын
For everyone comparing this to Dracula. It is not. The Nosferatu vampire is only driven by hunger. To essentially feed on blood. It cannot walk in the sunlight or be anywhere near it. In fact that alone will kill it. It also has no desire to change humans into vampires. Simply to kill them to satiate it's hunger. It has limited telekinetic powers compared to Dracula. Dracula on the other hand is far more suave taking on many different forms from a handsome human to an animal when need be. He also wants to expand his army by changing humans into vampires. He is far more powerful in his abilities to overcome his victims. From mind speaking to stares of persuasion. Noferatu relies on rats to spread his disease. The bite from his fangs is typically lethal and kills rather than transforms. He's a walking infection. So those are some of the main differences between the two.

Eggers’ film is a reinterpretation of an early 20th century (1922) silent film: Nosferatu: a symphony of horror. This original film was intended as an adaptation of Stoker’s novel Dracula. However, Stoker’s estate refused to license the character. So the filmmakers changed core aspects of the character while maintaining the basic story structure. With this in mind, anyone making the Dracula comparison is not far off. Watch the Dead Meat Kill Count of the original 1922 film of you’re interested.

I can see where people used to color, flashing lights, jump scares, constant sound, C.G.I. and recognizable celebrities may not find it palatable but there are aspects to it that are imitated to this day. You may find the Klaus Kinski remake a bit more compelling. Last I checked it's here on YT. At any rate the point was that people who are authoritatively 'schooling' everyone about what Nosferatu is and is not haven't the slightest idea of what they're talking about. The original vampire was something that feeds on the life-force of others. Dracula made it about strictly feeding on blood. Orlok feeds on blood. But he also feeds on life-force through spreading disease. And by possessing the minds of others. And through trickery. Etc etc. so this adaptation was true to the original vampire. I believe Dracula was the original FULL NOVEL about a vampire, but the vampire was named (vampyr) and described in a short story that pre-dated Dracula.

I’ve seen a few people already say this but if you watch this film expecting the traditional Dracula story, you’re sorely mistaken. What Eggers created is so much more potent and true to the original Dracula. Mind you-and this is important-the original Nosferatu was made in 1922 by F.W. Murnau and was originally written as the first Dracula adaption to film. In order to bypass copyright infringement on the original authors estate, Murnau simply changed names and locations but kept the premise and characters intact (save the ending, in which the literary Dracula dies in his castle). Murnau’s story had an interesting ending, as Stoker’s widow still managed to successfully lobby Murnau to cease distribution and the subsequent order to destroy all copies of Nosferatu. Luckily, bootleg copies were preserved and today we can view Murnau’s 1922 masterpiece. Tangent aside, this film pays close attention to the original which, though Eggers certainly made it his own, is still clearly borne of the 1922 adaption. Therefor, this film is the closest we have to the modern telling of Dracula as it was written in 1897 by Bram Stoker. If you’re disappointed in the lack of fangs or bats or vampire tropes in this film I am sorry to disappoint, and even sympathize with you because those things certainly have a place in my heart too. But… this is paying homage to the Dracula that it’s creator himself designed and wrote. It feels almost ignorant to call this film a failure of the vampire genre when it’s literally the most faithful adaption of the original vampire!

I’m really confused. The director puts in all this effort to to make the film look great. And then you hang it on a performance, which is frankly speaking, hella weak????? Doesn’t make any sense. Killer mood. Crap acting. That’s kind of what this director does.
