Got to love how completely unfazed Jonathon Harker is by the obviously supernatural happenings right in front of him - he's just like "huh, that carriage driver's arm just grew ten feet and picked me up". I also really love the way Dracula's shadow isn't really following his movements at all.

It was more acutely described in the books, but these supernatural things are occurrences that Harker fails to realize/react to in the moment, but reflects on later in his letters and writings. Its very easy for someone in Harker's position to rationalize the weird things he sees as either tricks of the light, odd hallucinations brought on by his long travel, or simply the peculiarities of a strange and foreign land.

I have fallen in love with Dracula media via this film. The book is simply stunning, but i have also gone on to read other books and watch every film that I could find. One of the funnest things I have read and would recommend is the 70s/80s comic, 'Tomb of Dracula'. Its 80 brilliant issues plus some spinoffs, and also an animated film from 1980. There are a number of comic adaptations of the Bram Stoker novel, and also based upon the film version from 1992. There is even a really fun Mickey Mouse comic adaptation that if you know the story from the book, you will no doubt enjoy it more as an adult as much of it will go over a child's head.

Because crossing a threshold into a residence is a serious matter for a vampire. It's why the music/sound effect is as tense as it is for the moment. It's to reinforce the drama of that scene. But, yes, it's lost if you don't know anything about vampire lore.

@@lesigh1749 I never said he was. The point is that even though he *isn't* a vampire, it's highlighting an integral part of their being. In other words, it's important to VLAD that Harker crosses that threshold on his own free will. If I really wanted to be a cinematic wonk, I could say that is the reason the camera is on Vlad's side of the door, and not Harker's.

I think that while not much stands out about Keanu's performance, it doesn't really need to. He's just kind of in the middle while Mina and Dracula are more the main characters. Having Keanu's role more passive really creates a presence around Dracula that makes him feel much more than human, despite him showing a lot of human emotion in this movie. I thought it was an interesting dynamic.

Every Dracula movie I've ever seen is based on the idea that the "current" Mina/girlfriend of Harker looks exactly like the centuries-old wife of Dracula. Even in "Fright Night" that theme is maintained. It's not an "addition", it's integral to the story. Otherwise, Dracula is just a weird supernatural being that hunts people for blood ... for no real reason. It's utterly mindless without the love interest of Harker's girlfriend.

If thry wanted the characters to have English accents, why not just hire English actors? Fun movie, though.

The painting is a self portrait of Albrecht Durer. Interesting choice for the movie as i thought it was a well known work from the Northern Renaissance.

Are we early driver, there is nobody here? A local gives you a cross and says something about the dead ... nah, you know what I don't think i'll bother i'm getting back on with you, can you take me back to the station. Instead gets out, surrounded by wolves and a bizarre horseman who growls, has an extending arm with claws and weird helmet thing and thinks cool, cool this is completely normal

This film couldn't possibly 3:15 be parodied (which may explain why Mel Brook's "Dracula Dead and Loving It" was a spectacular failure, despite being the better film)!
