Been to Aldeburgh a few times while my husband was stationed in Mildenhall. Me being a huge fan of the podcast and an newly-minted M.R. James fan at the time, I talked his ear off about the the author every time we were there.

Really curious (perhaps that should be a warning to me) what the two people disliked about this video. Thanks for taking the time to do it and upload. It's definitely a pilgrimage I'm going to have to make at some point.

A great share, should you return again, please take your time around the cottage. Inside and out. Thanks! USA resident.

i now own that cottage but its restoration is going to take time due to there being a nature reserve on the bondry meaning nothing can happen at the moment due to nesting birds in the trees and bushs in the garden..

the actual bbc filming of a warning to the curious, took place in the little village of Happisburgh in north Norfolk , so many of the film locations are there and still unspoiled and original , very atmospheric . If there is a crown remaining .....its there !! visit and feel the haunting of Agar .....

I watched that yesterday and was wondering where it was filmed. Thank you.

The church scene with the vicar was filmed at Happisburgh; most of the rest of it was filmed at Wells-next-the-Sea and in and around Holkham Nature Reserve.

That's excellent. IIRC, Seaburgh was also the setting for "Oh Whistle and I'll Come To You My Lad".

Checking, I was wrong. "Oh Whistle and I'll Come To You My Lad" was set at "Burnstowe", representing Felixstowe.

Thanks for this video: atmospheric and informative. I listen to your podcasts driving the seven hours between Santa Cruz and Los Angeles to see my daughter and they take me back to the old country and throw new insights on to James' stories. The only location of one of them I've visited is St Bertrand de Comminges, and that was almost by accident. Great work, gentlemen. Maybe John Buchan or Conan Doyle after you exhaust James and his circle?

I can still hear Michael Hordern's voice in many of Mr. James' ghost stories. " Who is it that is coming". Not to mention hearing someone coughing and you're alone. Finally l can assure you I'm not unearthing anything. Hell No!!!! Don't want to be chased by a a 200 year old man with a hammer. Spooky, spooky, intensely spooky!

Excellent work chaps, and the bonus of Gt Livermere too! Just working through your podcasts which I recently discovered.

A short film but one which shows a number of places associated with M.R. James. The podcast that these guys do is really good and I am often listening to it as it contains so much discussion of James and his work along with that of other ghost story writers.

Very interesting and informative. Easy to see what would influence his future writings. Luckily he had the mental discipline to use it and channel it into his great stories. And maintain his sense of 'entertainment'.

Maybe a crown is buried there now. He found it and left it. Who says it didn't really happen? Wink

I think there's a pretty damn good chance you're right about the crown site. Loved those BBC adaptations.
