I believe Salgado is the most intelligent, educated, talented, and dedicated photographer ever-and, dare I say, one of the greatest human beings alive today. I admire him greatly and own several of his books. His work has had a tremendous impact on our awareness of the human condition and the environmental catastrophe. He is a total overachiever. Everything he does is well beyond any reasonable expectations. Thanks for covering him.

Salgado is arguably the GOAT whose work is incredibly humbling for wannabes, like myself. His work with the masses is what brought him to my attention and your landscape photo essay just adds to this legendary photographer's reputation. One of the truly great unknown artists of the 20th century. Excellent piece on background and getting the word out on him. Thanks.

It is said to become an "expert" requires the investment of at least 10,000 hours. Sebastião Salgado has spent a lifetime - his oeuvre an organic synthesis of grace, vision, craft and art. His photography is never "of," but always "about" the subject. This was really well done, Sir.

Amazing video! Thank you!!! Just a note here from a Forester from brazil: Instituto Terra started working on recovering the forest in Salgado’s family land along RIO DOCEBasin, in Minas Gerais State.. far from amazon, that was pointed by the video… the land is located in aSUBTROPICAL REGION but not specifically rainforest. their work now extends to many other places and ecosystems.

Hello, Joel. This photographer together with Michael Kenna are my idols. They create work that is never forgotten. The inspiration I get from looking at their work is enormous. They are partly the reason I photograph in black and white. Salgado is a master of black-and-white work. When you see the work he has made in the mines, you see how high the level of this photographer is. When you see the variety in his work it is phenomenal. I would be happy if I could match 20% of his level. But this is an idle dream. Thank you for this wonderful report, my friend. Antoine.
