A Walk Along Karntner Street І Kärntnerstraße | Vienna in 4k

The history of Kärntner street dates back to the Roman times, when it linked the city centre with the Carinthian Gate near the Opera House and in 1257 the street was still known as Strata Carinthianorum.
Of course, there was significant changes and developments over the centuries but it’s on the 19th century that Kärntner street saw a major widening and reconstruction and the first department stores emerged. Unfortunately, during World War II, the street suffered heavy damage, leading to extensive renovations and new constructions afterward.
Nevertheless, the damages were repaired, new buildings emerged, and today Kärntner street is as always one of the most famous streets in Vienna - a pedestrian zone since 1974 - stretching from Karlsplatz to Stephansplatz.
Today, with its many shops and cafes, Kärntner street attracts tourists and remains a preferred place for walks and tours. So, next time you're in Vienna, make sure to take a stroll down Kärntner street with its history, Viennese mood, merging past and present into one of the many pleasant and charming places in Vienna.
