Hi Tom, many thanks for a good tour of St. Helier, I'm amazed at the size for such a small island, I'm sure the shopping area is bigger than Birmingham city centre. Regarding dogs, dog owners always seem friendly and I usually work out how to spot the Jersey locals as they all seem to be attached to a dog😅 I hope you've enjoyed the lovely weather this weekend, have a great week.

Hi Valerie, thanks so much for taking the time to comment. The shopping area is a good size but you may have noticed there now seems to be more and more shops closing down, which was never the case a few years ago! The weather has been fantastic again today so I've been out on the north coast again with my camera. There is so much beautiful scenery up there that I have never seen before! It is rapidly becoming my favourite part of Jersey! Likewise, I hope that you had a fab weekend!

Ha ha ha! 😁😁😁I think Angie would take me up a cliff path if I was in a wheelchair and tip me over!!!! 😁😁😁 The co-op we passed is in exactly the same spot as the old one but it was knocked down and rebuilt with a hotel on top! What dogs are you breeding John......we passed a few different ones on the walk? Cheers my friend! 🍺🍺🍺

Thanks for the tour Tom, your right about the building work in town I can't remember seeing as much in town even when I lived In Jersey. We have always had dogs in the both our families but we only had our own dogs when we moved to Spain because we worked full time and would not fair to have a dog. It was nice to see a bobby on the beat in Queen steet and on to king steet. Just one question are they making Jersey a cash free zone, as you passed HSBC the cash machines were blocked off. All the best keep the videos coming please.

Hi Nic. Yes, I perfectly understand your comment about dogs and working full time. It is not fair on them for sure! As for cash.......it seems to be heading that way. A lot of the bars no longer accept cash and restaurants as well. I haven't seen anywhere accepting crypto yet though! Oh and thanks so much for the encouragement.........I'll certainly keep the videos coming! 👍😁

Somewhere .... I have a copy of the original plans for the development of the northern part of St Helier. Would be interesting to see what has eventuated. Funny that there was a fire, ha ha. Not the first, I remember my aunt being evacuated when there was a fire at that remaining gasometer. My grandmother lived in Belmont Road, opposite Ann St, and wasn't impressed to be sandwiched between the brewery and the gasworks. Nos 1-7 Simon Place are on the Elias Le Gros map of 1834. Surrounded by fields and orchards. Beautiful. GG Grandfather bought the house in 1896 for the princely sum of £371. 12s with £21. 12s 0d paid in rentes and £350 to be settled "as and when required", but was definitely living there in 1881. Funny how narrow Queen Street looks now; seemed so much wider with pavements crowded with holiday makers and a constant stream of cars. Great to get a picture of town as it is right now. Thank you. Last observation. Love to see the original tiled roofs and dormers at 17.20, especially the really steep one. (pizzaria). Think they were called catslide dormers. Well named!

Hi Kate. Again, thank you so much for sharing these wonderful memories! In the park there are some paving stones with the history of the area recorded on them. It has been a while since I read them but there was reference to fields and marsh land if I remember correctly! £371.......Phew!!!!!!

Hi there Henry! I hope my favourite city is still O.K. (I know that there have been some tough times since I left in 1995!). 👍

@thereluctantoutdoorsman5341 well, unfortunately the city will never be the same, which is why I subscribed your channel as many HKers can settle in britain using bno visa. Thanks for showing me what daily lives are like and hopefully one day I'll be a Jerseyman too 🤣

Your walking at a fare old pace... you must be fit.
@thereluctantoutdoorsman Жыл бұрын
Funny you mention it Jeff, but I had just been thinking about that and for my town centre walks I decided to slow down a bit in future, so people can check out the shops a bit more and people watch! For my country and coastal walks I think the more rapid pace works. Oh....and yes, I think all this walking is definitely helping my fitness! 👍
