Maybe a video idea would be to walk down a little further and have some food in Perrys cafe in briggswath for a video. Just a little further down. Lovely cafe by the river. We went into Sackys cafe yesterday after watching your video. Yummy.

Loved watching this Simon, thanks so much. We got back off our Whitby jollies on Friday, and I only found your vids after we got home! I'm making a list of "to do's" for next year, and will definitely do this walk. We had wondered how to get to the viaduct, and even with our wonky legs we can do this jaunt. Cracking vid. 😁

Hi Simon. We were members at Batley Variety Club for several years, even when we moved from Bradford. My wife , before we married, was a cashier at National & Provisional Bank in Bradford, and remembers counting the takings. She also worked in Batley branch in 1970

A 1963 classic by Lesley Gore" It's a CHAPATI and I'll cry if I want to " Sir Simon you are a tonic, walking with you & supping of grapes or grains with the divine Mrs M Seeing the delightful settings of Whitby Magic. I loved going to Ruswarp when I was a kid with my parents, we went to the pub beside the river and my siblings went on a rowing boat you could hire. Good memories!

I did that walk on a visit to Whitby a few years ago. I turned left at the station and crossed the river. Followed the road on the other side up a hill until I came to a path to the viaduct. It's a lovely walk over it and it leads, obviously, back to Whitby. I made the mistake of looking down when I was above those houses and for the first time in my life I had an attack of vertigo. It's not that I'm even scared of heights. 😵💫😃

Hi Simon, I did walk round some years ago, the year they had the bridge swung off when they had to wait for parts from either Germany or Italy. But I went round by road and across the big bridge.

Used to stay on a farm just up the road at Sneaton as a kid in a caravan. It had a path saying to Whitby which I always wondered about. I wonder if that ended up on the cinder track somewhere. Also if I could give you a bit of advice Simon. Start wearing a cap. A mate of mine didn't like to but ended up with some moles on his head that turned nasty and cancerous and left him with some dreadful treatment. 😬

The steam trains are part of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, which runs from Grosmont to Pickering - the next station on the line, Goathland, is probably better know to fans of Heartbeat as Aidensfield!

I’m interested in those buildings on your left going down the path just from whitby at side of the Esk, are they actually homes behind those fences ? Holiday let’s ? They look run down old places ?
@simplywhitby53569 ай бұрын
Not that I'm aware of.

The path was the result of a long campaign by a group of volunteers.. they used to help maintain the path but not sure if they are still active.

Obviously the path isn't always like this. You may have noticed we've had a lot of rain lately. The water will soon disappear. Certainly doesn't need 'tidying up', or the bikers will be hitting high speeds just as they have on what was the cinder track. C'mon, get on your bike and take yourself to Newholm, or take the train to Grosmont. Take your non local viewers elsewhere. Summer is coming 🌞
