A walk in 2 countries! The Schil, Cheviot Hills. Northumberland. 12th May 2018

A walk from The College Valley in Northumberland. The walk starts from Hethpool Car park and heads to Elsdonburn before taking in Eccles Cairn and heading to the Border Fence. I follow the border fence, taking a detour to visit a WW2 aircraft crash site.
I then continue towards The Schil, encountering an Adder along the way. After the Schil I visit the mountain refuge hut on the border ridge, before heading back down to The College Valley. I finish off by visiting the RAF Memorial in College Valley. Distance is around 15.5 miles.

You inspired me, I did this walk this week. What a great day out even if there were some lung stretchers for a Norfolk girl. I don't usually enjoy road walking but it was evening by the time I dropped into the valley and I saw so much wildlife along that stretch including goats and deer. Sat and had the last of my coffee by the renovated memorial, very peaceful, thinking of the young men that died. Also the memorial for the shepherds and their dog. Thanks for this

Thanks Mick, yes we are lucky to have The Cheviots on our door step, a great place to escape the crowds. You are right about the crash sites, it was a poignant moment being there, knowing two young air crew lost their lives at that site. I was stopped in my tracks by the hissing sound of the Adder ( the camera didn't pick the sound up) This was a long walk, but I enjoyed the day. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers. Eddie.

Thanks Elizabeth. The Cheviot Hills are a great place for peace and solitude. It was a moving experience visiting the crash site, knowing what happened there. I went on holiday to Northumberland two weeks. Had a lovely time fantastic people. When I got home to S Wales my friends in the gym asked where I went on holiday with my wife. I told them they didn't stop laughing, been every year since my first time. Tourists board don't push the area . Why.

Hi Martin, thanks for the kind comments, it is appreciated. I think I used a Sony compact camera for the still shots and a Go Pro for the video shots. I now use a Nikon D5600 for photos and Go Pro Hero 8 for video. This was a great walk. I now use Power Director editing software. Thanks for watching & commenting. Take care. Cheers. Eddie.
