A Walk In Fort Wayne Indiana

I grew up in Fort Wayne. I moved away in 1998. But I still look at stuff related to it online all the time. The courthouse is pretty fascinating and I heard even more immaculate inside. I never been inside but heard there's a lot of marble decor in the courtrooms. Sorry if this seems like a long comment. That park you visited is called Frieman Square. That spot you said that holds water is a fountain. Fort Wayne has many other great beautiful parks throughout the city. Another note to help, that building across the courthouse that you thought is a federal building was at one time called the City County Building. All the city and county government offices were there including the mayor's. After I moved most city offices including the mayor's moved out to a building called Citizens Square. In a way I miss Fort Wayne and amazed how much has changed since I left. But I always admire the city's rich history. Glad you were able to check it out.

A Very Nice Comment. I was there and left 10 years before haven't been back in 30+ years. It was a great place to raise a family back then. I dont know about now. It looks like a time capsule with few exceptions. There are problems everywhere so there's nothing bad to say. Summer is decent winter is cold lol. Visiting as a kid back in the day we never got bored because we were politely asked to be outside all day unsupervised till the sunset lol. Great memories.

Fort Wayne is a great city. Growing bigger and more beautiful. Couple notes: Premier Bank (Anthony Wayne Bldg.) also has badass luxury condos in the top floors. Lincoln Tower (w/Old Glory) is a 22 story art deco building built during the Great Depression. You should see the main lobby-Amazing. Rousseau Centre (the only thing missing is ‘U’ 💕) is indeed a gov’t building. That’s where a the mayor’s office is. Used to be called the City-County Bldg. Great video, thank you!!!

Lincoln National Bank & Trust tower. I worked in there for a year in the late ‘80’s. Lobby is unreal. Built in the 1930’s. For years it was the tallest building in the state. Lincoln Bank got acquired sometime in the ‘90’s, I think, by a bank out of Detroit.

@@SightsSoundsFlavors its art deco and was the first 300 foot building in indiana, also has and always I guess had a soda fountain, not quite as fancy as some of the drugstore ones though, but if you like old buildings you MUST see the churches especially the catholic and lutheran ones they are the most ornate regals tobbacco has the hundred plus year old casings and coffered tin celings, coney island of course, powers hamburger, and the old scotish rite as well as embassy theater and you should check out the old fedral building as well as the history center that was the cities courthouse for many many years, there is also the landing and its new referbished buildings and restarounts, and get a look at the water treatment plant across the old fort its art deco it has bias reliefs if you look in the windows, but its fenced off and you cant get to little turtles monument anymore due to concerns of the modern age since 9/11 and go down calhoon street by the old realto theater and get a look at it you used to be able to get better looks of the door and fountain water fountain by the door but they walled it off, next door is some modernesque art deco looking topped buildings on the block, and you need to check out st patricks catholic church its white carrara marble the altars the statues the communion rail, and its got stadium style seating, and if you can zion lutheran its got german stainglass from bavaria like the cathedral, and if you go up to st vincents check out the adoration chaple there they built in 2020 it looks like it was built 100 years ago also with german windows from the moller company same as the ones that did the ones at the cathdral and has mosaics on the floor as well as an old alter its not huge though and requires silance as its an adoration chapel for prayer but you can go in and check it out and pray befor our lord with the blessed sacrament exposed, there is also the new park on the river front and the electric works development to look at down by the old general electric they closed it but its been redeveloped into mixed use as buisness and an indoor market as well as plenty of things and old electric things there on display like old guages and a transformer.

There's problems everywhere, so there's nothing bad to say. Summer is decent Winters are cold lol. Visiting as a kid back in the day we never got bored because we were politely asked to stay outside Unsupervised! all day til the sunset which was typical in the 70s and 80s. Walking and Bike riding with friends all over the city. Video games were played in and arcade and Never lasted all day (probably cause each game cost a quarter( thats .25cents) for the millennials lol. Going to the mall was an event and it was cool. The mall even had an indoor skate rink! I could go on and on. Great memories.

I lived there, something really weird, people do not walk in that city, people always drive cars even for a short distance, and beyond downtown there are no sidewalks.

@@SightsSoundsFlavors I was brought up in Decatur, just to the southeast. All Indiana does is chip and seal their roads, LOL. Terrible climate. 20 one day, and 90 the next. Fort Wayne is directly located between Chicago, Detroit, Indianapolis, and Columbus, yet it is served by only one interstate route. US 30 between Fort Wayne and the Chicago metro area is a deathtrap.
