I used to live in the north east part of town when I was a kid. Now I walk the streets in google maps from time to time. Barely anything has changed. This video took me back. Thank you so much for sharing ♥️

North east? Do you mean the center of the city?

Hey! A guy from Oktyabrsky here. I'm glad you liked the city. However, the spring and fall are really hellish here. It feels much better in winter and especially summer. Ironically, a lot of places you walk through got repaired and civilized just after you left. It's like my last day in school which was a total disaster and got redecorated just after I graduated.

Thank you for the update! Glad to hear that there were improvements made to many of the places. I also think it's cool that the video is now officially a time capsule of a different physical world.

Thank you so much for making this video! I was actually adopted from Petrozavodsk when in 2000 and have yet to travel back, so being able to join in on a virtual tour was very entertaining! Wishing you well with your education and hoping you are in good health! (:

Well, thanks so much for such an amazing conversation that we never had. I really enjoyed the whole trip and it was really fascinating reminds me of places I’ve lived and visited. I also wanted to add that this video was filtered in my feed although I couldn’t really remember the channel. As I proceeded to look at your videos, I realized that this is one of the channels that I have spent many experiences walking, skating, and just delving into with music. I really enjoyed seeing that personal connection and having felt as though there was some sort of a conversation (even if it was one sided) thanks for that! Russia is somewhere I’ve always wanted to tour to and I’m sure I’ll remember this video if I ever get the chance!

Thank you for your kind words, Elik! I'm honored to have been a part of your life through music - I started this channel as a high schooler simply to share music with the world because I didn't have many people around me interested in what I was interested in, and comments like this make me proud to have my achieved goal. I also hope you're able to make it to Russia someday. As you can probably see in this video, it's a dirty, beautiful, gloomy, breathtaking country with some of the best people I have ever met. Let me know if you do end up planning to go (or if, for whatever reason you're ever in Massachusetts or Minnesota, my homelands back here in the U.S.) and I'll be happy to help out with anything, to the best of my ability of course.

Thanks for the video. Petrozavodsk about 250k people, St Paul about million people (?), depending on how you count the population.

I wish I could have had an experience like this. Is hiking/camping somewhat big there? Or even hunting? That's probably what I'd want to inevitably do: go camping during the winter (or close to winter) all bundled up. 🤷 But basically I'd love to visit where my biological family is from.
@TheWoundedGalaxies4 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure about hunting, but I think hiking and camping is! I had many friends who went on treks into the wilderness, and I know there's a popular hiking and camping related club at the university (if I remember correctly, named Sampo after an artifact from the Finno-Karelian epic the Kalevala) that I would have joined if I had had more time. Karelia is super beautiful and is definitely worth visiting - I only made it way out of the city a couple times, but even the woods near Staraya Kukkovka and Chertov Stul on the northern edge of the city in Solomennoe are beautiful natural areas fun to trek through.

what is the living cost out there ?
@TheWoundedGalaxies3 жыл бұрын
It's significantly lower than the US, but medium-high if on a standard Russian salary. You can live really comfortably on a salary of $800-1000 USD a month (around twice the average salary in Petrozavodsk), and you can get by on waaaaay less than that.

Pushkinskaya street was named of Alexander Pushkin in 1899. You study in Petrozavodsk? Where are you from?
@TheWoundedGalaxies4 жыл бұрын
I wanted that story of the naming of Pushkinskaya Ulitsa for Petrozavodsk's cannons to be true :( but I looked it up on Wikipedia and I guess sometimes it really is the obvious, boring answer. And I taught English in Petrozavodsk on a U.S.-Russia exchange program from last September until mid-March (this video was taken on my last day of teaching)!

Finland had to give away KARELEN after the war, when you go to Finland, whre I live, and compare this...its like you go back in time 30 years ! So depressing...this part of russia should have remained in Finland...........and look at the economy in Finland, its one of the worlds best countries to live......Russia put money in the army, and we out it in infrastructure and trading with the west
