In this channel I cover some of the recent problems I have had with my WW2 Willys Jeep and talk about the reality of owning a vintage vehicle.

Back in the 80's when I left school the majority of us boys had learned metal & wood work skills, some even had car mechanics due to spending one day a week at another college. Over the years I've learnt to weld, use a lathe and milling machine, all such handy machines and skills to have because I can fabricate parts to fit if need be. I own a 40 year old motorcycle myself, would rather own an old car too rather than an EV or anything with an electronic parking brake, self steering parking aids etc.

There definitely used to be more practical skills taught. I got some woodwork lessons and a bit if welding but that was all. I am not sure if they still do that?

@@Truffle1947 I don't think that they do,... I'm surprised that even some 30 year olds don't know how to wire a 3 pin plug for example so basic electrical/electronics must have stopped too??

Very good video! Quite accurate in my experience of owning a jeep. As previous comments have made. But the best you can. I think a lot of jeep and old classics have been maintained to different levels. Some to that will do standard and others to no money no object. I like you state, be prepared to spend some money every year to keep on top of “stuff”. It’s kinda the hobby. It’s taken me probably 3 years to get to know my jeep. It’s scary but buying one and owning one is just amazing.

Yeah you are right. They are all different and can all have issues. As long as you dont mind working on then it does nor matter 😁

Whatever classic you want, always buy the best you can afford, it's the cheapest in the long run.

Sound advise 😁

I still want a jeep, but you're making me rethink it.
@Truffle19478 ай бұрын
You just have to be prepared for keeping it running and in good order :) You can't just buy something like that and think thats that and you get to drive it around all the time and not have to do work on it. Obviously the amount of work changes a lot from Jeep to Jeep. If you get one that has recently been totally rebuilt then its no where near as much of an issue as say one like mine.

@@Truffle1947 if I get one it would be like yours and more likely much worse. I have 0 budget for such things.

That is a shame ☹️ No option to save longer to get one in a bit better shape?

Did you check the cone filterwhich sits inside the connector on the side of the engine? Mine had a small deposit of crud on it.
@Truffle19478 ай бұрын
That came off last year as I had to replace the valve cover gasket. So I know the cone is not clogged up 😁

The PCV valve was basically working fine and was not causing the issues. But at least now I know it is squeeky clean 😁
