This is saying not to run the saw "full throttle off load" meaning don't pull the trigger and run the saw flat out without putting it in some wood. That "off load" part is the key. At least that's how I read it. Call Glenn, ask him about it and let us know what he says?

It says don't run it at high revs, or "full throttle off load" for the first three tanks, but you can run it full throttle in the wood. Under the load it doesn't run at such high revs like it does "off load".

Ya I build motorcycle motors for a living and have a strict brake in procedure I follow. Yep every time I buy a new saw at my local hardware store the first thing they do is fire em up cold and hold em wide open to make sure they are oiling befor they hand em over to me .

Thank you for the information. I recently purchased a echo weed whacker and did not break it in at all hopefully I didn’t make a mistake.

You are welcome! Does your service manual cover break in procedures?

So I've run chainsaws for the last 8years. So the "rule of thumb" is to NOT run the saw during heavy loads for long periods of time....Before the rings seat. When your saw was purchased they most likely took it in the back and piss revved the shit outta it for about 15-20sec. Most all dealers are told to do this before handing the saw over to the consumer. In my experience in rebuilt saws I've done or bought, I let it idle for a full tank. Occasionally walking over to pull the trigger up to WOT for like 2 or 3 seconds. Then let it idle back down and continue burning through the 1st tank. Afterwards I use it as I normally would. Except I don't like to dawg it in for long extended cuts in large logs or continuous bucking of large logs for a long period.... UNTIL the rings have seated. Just my worthless 2cents from my experience.

This whole “break in” process is bullshit I run my saws out of the box full throttle and they are just fine
