Thank you guys for making this video. Growing up in Fresno, we vacationed to the central coast many many times. My twin brother even went to school at Cal poly and lived in San Luis Obispo for five years. Dairy creek really is a fun facility and I’m glad to see how creative they’ve been with the different ways they’re engaging the community. I feel like The Fried Egg is becoming the conscience of golf. Thanks for everything you do

NIce feature TFE team. I went to Cal Poly in 2003 and this was our spot! Dozens of our Noodle balls are hidden in those hills. Glad to see they're adapting and pushing forward.

Heart breaking to see another course I helped design with the late John Harbottle turn to dust (partially). Neat to see though the other innovations to bring patrons to the property and experience the terrific environmental setting at Dairy Creek.

My college golf course. Impossible to play in the afternoon because it'd get so windy!

Looks like a really nice property and a benefit to the community. Family Sunday Funday is a great idea that more courses should consider. Thanks for sharing their story, and I hope they can survive.

Only in America does a golf course **have** to be green. Plant brown, firm, and fast. Make the course smaller and more nuanced so that you need to irrigate less land.

Brown needs to be the new green - at least here in the states.

The prison is getting water from somewhere. Why can't the golf course access that water? And why spend millions building a golf course with such precarious supply?

This really needed a clearer explanation of how exactly the prison supplies water to the course - he basically said "the prison delivers the water, so when there were half as many prisoners, we ran out of water." Huh? Are they manually carrying buckets of water to the creek? Why does the number of people at the Men's Colony directly scale the flow of water to the course up/down?

I agree. I do not understand how this works. In any event it is a shame.

I imagine the greywater and waste water is used by the golf course. For irrigation. Most municipal golf courses used reclaimed greywater from the surrounding communities.

I had the same confusion. The grey water answer makes sense. It was probably covered during the interview, but got cut out during the editing.

The golf course is irrigated with reclaimed water from the prison. CMC has its own water treatment plant so after all the waste is treated out of the water a certain amount must go down Chorro creak and once that number has been met the remainder can be shipped to the golf course (through a water line). If less waste water is being produced that means there is less left over water.

I've seen challenging water supply issues at many golf courses, but this is the most bizarre irrigation setup I've seen. I assume the GC can afford the reclaimed water but not the source that supplies the prison. If the prison can operate at 200% occupancy and meet it's downstream obligations, water is available. Flush Twice!

Cut the water off to the prison and send it all to the course.
