For the extra crafts and things I try to plan a month ahead. So I think about what holidays or specials days are coming up in that month. That helps me know how many crafts we might do. I check TPT mainly for the actual ideas!

Your kids are entering the Kindergarten sweet spot....Every year, sometime in March, my kindergartners reach a point where everything just clicks! You begin to see amazing growth and it is very exciting!!! I was sad last year because just when it was happening, we went remote. Enjoy the ride. It is amazing.

In a normal year, this is the magical time for Kindergarten! The kids just start getting things, even those that you're were so worried about at the beginning of the year. I don't know if things will be on the same level for you with all the weirdness of this year I think what you are doing with the syllables for spelling words is the BEST! Since I'm teaching 2nd now, I try to teach my kids the same for those bigger words, but that would be amazing if they were already used to doing that.

Just love love love these videos - got some ideas for some of my littles who struggle with CVC words and blending. I teach Y3 (2nd grade??) but I have lots who are super far behind due to pandemic and SEN, so always looking for ideas to help them access our learning. Love the syllable lines you did too! I used watching this as my reward for planning Maths and English for the week!

At my previous job we always said this while passing out pages: " The first thing I do is always the same, I pick up my pencil and I write my name." After so long they would start to finish the saying on their own when we would say it out loud in class and we noticed an increase in the kiddos remembering to write their name.

you might not need this anymore since you uploaded this in March. But my students didn't get rhyming until i did word family's. I drew a House and had the ending (-at for example) in the middle of the house. I told them that this is the -at family. Every word in the -at family ends with the sound -at. Cat is apart of that family, do you hear -at in cat? do you see -at in cat? Yes, what other word belongs in the -at family? And we focused on one word family a day and did some matching for review on friday.

Sometimes when walking around and I see are kids with no names I just start saying the beginning of that chant and the kids say the rest, majority of the time it prompts those that missed to do it. Hang on Mayleen! I can’t believe it’s March already!

I love your vlogs and teaching ideas. 😊 I teach 1st-2nd graders and have the same problem with no name papers. I’ve started something this year that has been helping a lot. Whenever I hand out the papers, I tell my students to write their name and date before Google gets to 0. I then have my Google mini countdown from 45 to 0 (or however long I think it will take them). I use my Google mini because they think it’s cool and it keeps me from having to count down. 😂 I also ask them to stand or do something else to show me they have finished it before Google is done counting. It makes it kind of a game. This doesn’t work when kids are getting papers at different times, but it works 90% of the time for me. I get a very small percentage of no name papers now.

I tell my kinder kiddos that they need to draw a smiley face next to their name before they hand it in. We do a check of our paper before we hand it in. Helps them understand that they need to recheck their paper before they hand it in and if they see their name they place a smiley face. We call it a smiley face check.

I have seen it in other K5 classrooms, but just curious - do you spell certain words the way students would on your anchor charts/posters/white board? I was wondering what type of words you do that with and why.

Yes!!!! If we are using phonetic spelling they will help me sound it out using rules we have learned! Sometimes I'll teach them a new rule on the spot and sometimes I will just write the word but most times I have them help me spell it :)

Hi! I think I showed some in my last video? I buy big bundles for phonics skills - I have one from Miss Giraffe that's more for first grade but has differentiation and covers a lot of the same skills kinder does so I use some of that and then I will throw in other letter activities for a few of my kids! :) I have a post on insta that explains some more too!
